Job summary

Amey Australia, formerly Premise, is seeking a Civil Designer to deliver practical design outcomes for land development and infrastructure across Queensland.

You’ll join a hands-on design team in Mackay, producing civil designs with AutoCAD and 12d, from concept through documentation, while benefiting from guidance by Principal Engineers.

The role values attention to detail, clear communication, and mentoring two junior teammates as you grow your capability.

Qualifications

• Around 3+ years’ experience in civil design or close to completing an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Solid understanding of civil design principles, standards and documentation.
• Exposure to land development projects in Queensland.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and 12d.

Job description

If you're early in your civil career and want to get hands-on experience across real projects, this is a role where you’ll actually build your capability, not just support others. You’ll work on residential subdivisions and infrastructure that make up growing communities across Queensland, with guidance from experienced designers around you.

You’ll be part of a design team delivering land development projects from concept through to documentation. Day-to-day, that means producing designs for residential lots, roads, and supporting infrastructure like water and sewer networks, while building your understanding of how projects come together.

You’ll work closely with a Senior Designer, contribute to project deliverables, and have the opportunity to support more junior team members as you develop. There’s a good balance of structured guidance and autonomy, so you can keep progressing without feeling out of your depth.

This is a hands-on Civil Designer position focused on delivering practical, high-quality design outcomes across a mix of infrastructure and civil projects.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be:

• Producing civil designs and detailed drawings using tools like AutoCAD and 12d
• Supporting project delivery from concept through to documentation and submission
• Preparing plans, reports and technical documentation for client and authority approvals
• Liaising with local councils and other stakeholders to keep projects moving
• Assisting with design calculations and ensuring compliance with relevant standards
• Supporting and mentoring two junior team members within the design team

The role is primarily office-based, with some exposure to site environments where relevant.

Must have:

• Around 3+ years’ experience in civil design, or close to completing an Associate or Batchelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Solid understanding of civil design principles, standards and documentation
• Exposure to land development projects in Queensland
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and 12d

Nice to have:

• Experience preparing designs or documentation for authority submissions
• Confidence working with others across design and project teams

Most importantly, you’re someone who:

• Pays attention to detail and takes pride in getting things right
• Asks questions and looks for ways to improve
• Works well with others and communicates clearly
