Job summary

Amey Australia is seeking a hands-on Civil Designer to deliver practical, high-quality designs for land development, roads and supporting infrastructure in Mackay. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and contribute to project deliverables from concept to documentation.

The role focuses on producing civil designs and drawings using AutoCAD and 12d, with opportunities to mentor junior staff and engage with local councils for approvals. Office-based in Mackay CBD with some site exposure.

Qualifications

• Around 1+ years’ experience in civil design, or close to completing a Civil Engineering degree.
• Solid understanding of civil design principles, standards and documentation.
• Exposure to land development projects in Queensland.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and 12d.

Job description

You’ll be part of a design team delivering land development projects from concept through to documentation. Day-today, that means producing designs for residential lots, roads, and supporting infrastructure like water and sewer networks, while building your understanding of how projects come together.

You’ll work closely with a Senior Designer, contribute to project deliverables, and have the opportunity to support more junior team members as you develop. There’s a good balance of structured guidance and autonomy, so you can keep progressing without feeling out of your depth.

This is a hands-on Civil Designer position focused on delivering practical, high-quality design outcomes across a mix of infrastructure and civil projects.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll be:

• Producing civil designs and detailed drawings using tools like AutoCAD and 12d
• Supporting project delivery from concept through to documentation and submission
• Preparing plans, reports and technical documentation for client and authority approvals
• Liaising with local councils and other stakeholders to keep projects moving
• Assisting with design calculations and ensuring compliance with relevant standards
• Supporting and mentoring two junior team members within the design team

The role is primarily office-based, with some exposure to site environments where relevant.

What we're looking for

We’re keen to hear from Civil Designers who can work with a level of independence, while still valuing collaboration and input from senior engineers.

Must have:

• Around 1+ years’ experience in civil design, or close to completing a Civil Engineering degree
• Solid understanding of civil design principles, standards and documentation
• Exposure to land development projects in Queensland
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and 12d

Nice to have:

• Experience working on Queensland-based projects
• Confidence in supporting or mentoring junior team members
• Exposure to local authority submissions and approvals
