Job summary

Peabody is seeking an experienced CHPP Operator/Maintainer to join the Wambo Mine CHPP team. You will ensure safe, efficient operation, meet production targets and quality specs, under a 12-hour day/night 2-3-3-2 roster in a lifestyle-friendly pattern.

This role requires a relevant trade qualification, a current driver’s licence, and experience with CHPP operations, conveyors, pumps, crushers and associated plant in a heavy industrial environment. Strong safety focus and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Requires a relevant trade qualification and current driver’s licence.
• Previous CHPP/coal mining or heavy industrial experience is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and fault-finding abilities are essential.
• Experience with conveyors, pumps, crushers, screens and related equipment is advantageous.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and commitment to safety and continuous improvement are required.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate all CHPP areas in line with production schedules.
• Monitor plant performance and optimize production and product quality.
• Operate control room systems and respond to alarms.
• Perform routine inspections and identify equipment faults or process issues.
• Conduct first-response troubleshooting and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Coordinate with maintenance for planned downtime and repairs.
• Operate train loading facilities per schedules and stockpile requirements.
• Manage stockpile dozers to control and reclaim product coal.
• Support planned shutdowns and maintenance activities.
• Identify and report hazards; uphold site safety procedures.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and comply with site procedures.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance to improve plant performance.
• Participate in confined spaces, working at heights, and dogging tasks as needed.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced CHPP Operator / Maintainer to join our Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) team at Wambo. Reporting to the CHPP Production Supervisor, this hands-on, trade-based position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the CHPP, ensuring production targets, coal quality specifications and operational performance objectives are achieved.

Work a lifestyle friendly 4 Panel Rotating Roster (12-hour day and night shifts) offering a 2-3-3-2 pattern and excellent work-life balance.

This role combines both operational and maintenance responsibilities, requiring strong troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Your key responsibilities

• Safely operate all areas of the CHPP in line with production schedules.
• Monitor plant performance and optimise production and product quality.
• Operate control room systems and respond appropriately to operational alarms.
• Conduct routine inspections and identify equipment faults or process issues.
• Perform first-response troubleshooting and breakdown maintenance activities.
• Complete preventative maintenance inspections and associated work orders.
• Operate train loading facilities in line with train schedules and stockpile blend requirements.
• Operate stockpile dozers to manage, maintain and reclaim product coal stockpiles.
• Support planned shutdowns and maintenance activities.
• Identify, report and act on hazards and safety concerns.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and compliance with site procedures.
• Work collaboratively with operations and maintenance teams to optimise plant performance.
• Participate in activities including confined space entry, working at heights and dogging tasks as required.

About you

• A relevant trade qualification.
• Current Driver's Licence.
• Previous experience within a CHPP, coal mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and fault-finding capability.
• Experience working with conveyors, pumps, crushers, screens and associated plant equipment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Highly regarded (but not essential)

• Stockpile dozer experience.
• Relevant mining competencies and industry tickets.
• Experience with train loading operations and stockpile management.
