Job summary

Peabody Energy, Inc. in Singleton, NSW, is seeking an experienced CHPP Operator/Maintainer to join the Coal Handling and Preparation Plant team.

Reporting to the CHPP Production Supervisor, the role combines operations and maintenance duties to meet production targets and coal quality specs. You will work a 12-hour day/night rotating roster (2-3-3-2) with safety and continuous improvement at the forefront, performing fault finding, routine inspections, and preventative maintenance while

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate all areas of the CHPP in line with production schedules.
  • Monitor plant performance and optimise production and product quality.
  • Operate control room systems and respond to operational alarms.
  • Conduct routine inspections and identify equipment faults or process issues.
  • Perform first-response troubleshooting and breakdown maintenance activities.
  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections and work orders.
  • Operate train loading facilities in line with schedules and stockpile requirements.
  • Maintain stockpile dozers and manage coal stockpiles.
  • Support planned shutdowns and maintenance activities.
  • Identify, report and act on hazards and safety concerns.
  • Maintain housekeeping and comply with site procedures.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to optimise plant performance.
  • Participate in confined spaces, working at heights and dogging tasks as required.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced CHPP Operator / Maintainer to join our Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) team at Wambo. Reporting to the CHPP Production Supervisor, this hands-on, trade-based position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the CHPP, ensuring production targets, coal quality specifications and operational performance objectives are achieved.

Work a lifestyle friendly 4 Panel Rotating Roster (12-hour day and night shifts) offering a 2-3-3-2 pattern and excellent work-life balance.

This role combines both operational and maintenance responsibilities, requiring strong troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Your key responsibilities:
  • Safely operate all areas of the CHPP in line with production schedules.
  • Monitor plant performance and optimise production and product quality.
  • Operate control room systems and respond appropriately to operational alarms.
  • Conduct routine inspections and identify equipment faults or process issues.
  • Perform first-response troubleshooting and breakdown maintenance activities.
  • Complete preventative maintenance inspections and associated work orders.
  • Operate train loading facilities in line with train schedules and stockpile blend requirements.
  • Operate stockpile dozers to manage, maintain and reclaim product coal stockpiles.
  • Support planned shutdowns and maintenance activities.
  • Identify, report and act on hazards and safety concerns.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and compliance with site procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with operations and maintenance teams to optimise plant performance.
  • Participate in activities including confined space entry, working at heights and dogging tasks as required.
About you:
  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • Previous experience within a CHPP, coal mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and fault‑finding capability.
  • Experience working with conveyors, pumps, crushers, screens and associated plant equipment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Highly regarded (but not essential)
  • Relevant mining competencies and industry tickets.
  • Experience with train loading operations and stockpile management.
