Job summary

Sina’s Kitchen is a Sri Lankan fusion fine dining restaurant in Mill Park, Victoria. We are seeking two experienced Chefs for a permanent full-time position to manage day-to-day kitchen operations and lead a professional kitchen team.

Responsibilities include food production, menu planning, cost control, stock management and ensuring top quality and presentation while maintaining safety standards. Minimum 3 years’ experience and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification.
  • Diploma or other relevant qualification is desirable.
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience as a Chef.
  • Demonstrated international culinary experience in authentic Sri Lankan cuisine.
  • Experience managing and supervising a commercial kitchen.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and presentation.
  • Experience with menu planning, recipe development and menu costing.
  • Experience managing food and labour costs and stock.

  • Prepare and cook high-quality Sri Lankan cuisine to restaurant standards.
  • Ensure food preparation and presentation meet high quality and efficiency.
  • Plan menus and discuss ideas with management.

  • Manage stock ordering, receiving, storage and rotation.
  • Monitor and control food and labour costs and kitchen expenses.
  • Minimize wastage and ensure efficient use of ingredients.
  • Supervise, train and support kitchen staff.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing and selection of kitchen staff.
  • Provide feedback and contribute to team development.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe kitchen at all times.
  • Coordinate kitchen operations during busy service periods and functions.
  • Work closely with management to support restaurant operations.

Job description

We are seeking two experienced and motivated Chefs to join our professional kitchen team on a permanent full-time basis.

The Chefs will be responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operation of the kitchen, including food preparation and production, menu planning, food and labour cost control, stock management, kitchen staff supervision, food safety and maintaining consistently high standards of food quality and presentation.

The successful candidates will have a strong understanding of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, excellent organizational skills, the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment, including during peak service periods and functions, and the commitment to delivering high-quality food and exceptional customer experiences.

About you
  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification

  • Demonstrated experience managing food costs, labour costs and stock.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure during peak service periods and functions.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use relevant restaurant and business systems.

$85,000 – $90,000 per annum + superannuation, depending on skills and experience.
