Job summary

Harmony Australasia's CSA Mine near Cobar is seeking an experienced Charge Up Operator to join the Production team. You will carry out underground charge-up activities in accordance with legislative requirements and site procedures to ensure safe and efficient blasting operations.

This role offers a 7/7 days and nights roster with residential, DIDO or FIFO options from Brisbane or Sydney, plus a competitive salary with bonus scheme eligibility.

Qualifications

• Underground charge-up experience is required.
• BEUL and UHL licences are essential.
• Security clearance for explosives is required.
• Strong commitment to safety, health and environment.
• Working at Heights and Elevating Work Platform is desirable.
• Experience with MCU blast delivery systems is advantageous.
• Ability to follow mine safety procedures and handle explosives safely.

Job description

The CSA Mine is located 11 kilometres north-west of Cobar, central western New South Wales. At 1.9 kilometres deep, it is one of Australia’s deepest underground mines and is Australia’s highest-grade copper mine.

Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. CSA Mine has recently joined Harmony Australasia, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The acquisition underpins Harmony’s strategy to expand its Australasian footprint and establish a strong, diversified copper portfolio, complemented by the Eva Copper Mine Project in Queensland, currently under construction, and set to become the state’s largest open‑pit copper mine upon commissioning. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.

We are seeking an experienced Charge Up Operator to join our Production team. As an integral member, you will be responsible for carrying out underground charge-up activities in accordance with legislative requirements and site procedures to ensure safe and efficient blasting operations.

Working on a 7/7 days & nights rotational roster, this position is available on a residential, DIDO or FIFO basis from Brisbane or Sydney.

Key Responsibilities:

• Connecting detonation systems, sets up detonators, wiring, or electronic initiation systems to ensure controlled blasting


• Safely loading explosives into drilled holes for blasting


• Following blast designs, working from engineering plans and technical drawings that specify hole depth, explosive quantity, and timing


• Communicating effectively with supervisors and other operators to prepare for firing


• Preparing and cleaning work areas, checking ground conditions and ensures the stope is ready for safe blasting

About You

To be successful, you will bring the following skills, experience and personal attributes:

• A minimum of two years demonstrated underground charge-up experience.


• Blasting Explosives User Licence (BEUL) and (UHL) essential.


• Strong commitment to safety, health and environment.


• Working at Heights and Elevating Work Platform (desired).


• Previous experience operating an MCU or similar blast product delivery vehicle (desired).


• Experience with electronic blasting systems (advantageous).


• Security Clearance for explosives essential.


• The ability to ensure safety compliance by strictly following mine safety procedures, handling explosives carefully, and checking for hazards.
