Job summary

The CSA Mine, located near Cobar in central western New South Wales, is seeking an experienced Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Operator to join the Processing team on a 7/7 roster on a residential basis.

As TSF Operator you will manage tailings storage facilities, pumps, and dewatering equipment, monitor water quality and dam safety, and coordinate with concentrator operations to maximise efficiency.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in civil processing plants.
• Current C Class License.
• Ability to operate mobile equipment (loaders/forklifts/haul trucks).
• Confined Space and Working at Heights tickets valued.

Job description

The CSA Mine is located 11 kilometres north-west of Cobar, central western New South Wales. At 1.9 kilometres deep, it is one of Australia’s deepest underground mines and is Australia’s highest-grade copper mine.

We are proud to have recently joined Harmony Australasia. Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. CSA Mine has recently joined Harmony Australasia, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The acquisition underpins Harmony’s strategy to expand its Australasian footprint and establish a strong, diversified copper portfolio, complemented by the Eva Copper Mine Project in Queensland, currently under construction, and set to become the state’s largest open‑pit copper mine upon commissioning. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.

We are seeking an experienced Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Operator to join our Processing team. Working on a 7/7 days roster, this position is available on a residential basis only.

As the TSF Operator, your duties will entail the following, however not limited to:

Operate tailings storage facilities, dams, and associated infrastructure, including pumps, pipelines, and distribution systems. Control tailings discharge, density, and flow rates while managing water recovery systems. Coordinate with concentrator operations and operate dewatering equipment to maximise operational efficiency.

Execute hazard assessments and equipment isolations. Monitor environmental parameters, including seepage, groundwater, dust, and water quality. Ensure full compliance with dam safety regulations and environmental permits.

Monitor critical instrumentation and conduct inspections of dam walls, embankments, and spillways. Maintain required freeboard levels and dam stability. Operate the mobile plant.

Drive operational improvements and optimise tailings facility performance. Support the dam activities, conduct root cause analysis, and maintain accurate records.

About You:

To be successful, you will bring the following skills, experience and personal attributes:

Minimum 3 years’ experience working in civil processing plants, with knowledge of crushers, tailings systems, water management, and pumping operations.

Current C Class License required.

Wide range of equipment skills, as you will be required to operate mobile equipment like loaders, forklifts, haul trucks and water trucks and be comfortable doing pre-start checks.

Confined Space, and Working at Heights tickets are highly valued.

Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office.
