Job summary

The University of Melbourne is seeking a Category Manager to lead University-wide IT sourcing strategies within the Chief Financial Officer Group – Procurement Services. You will drive complex category strategies, partner with senior stakeholders, and deliver sustainable procurement outcomes that meet value-for-money goals.

You will manage multiple university-wide projects, ensure compliance and probity, and contribute to modern slavery risk management and sustainability targets while benefiting

Qualifications

• Hold a relevant undergraduate qualification or equivalent experience in procurement and contracts management.
• 5–8 years’ experience delivering complex sourcing projects with strong commercial outcomes.
• Demonstrate tender development, evaluation and negotiation skills in large environments.
• Analyse complex data sets to inform category strategies and value-for-money decisions.
• Apply knowledge of Australian Procurement Standards and social, sustainable procurement, including modern slavery risk management.

• Develop and implement category management plans with stakeholders to maximise value and manage risk across categories.

• Guide stakeholders through procurement processes, negotiations, vendor performance management and sustainable sourcing practices.
• Monitor category performance, resolve issues, benchmark best practice and contribute to financial, sustainability and modern slavery goals.

• Demonstrate advanced tender development, evaluation and negotiation skills within diverse strategic or large, complex environments.

• Analyse complex data sets to generate insights that inform category strategies and value-for-money decisions.

• Operate independently under broad direction, managing competing priorities across multiple University-wide procurement activities.

• Apply knowledge of Australian Procurement Standards and social, sustainable procurement, including modern slavery risk management.
