Job summary

VACCA is seeking a dedicated Case Manager for the Deadly Steps Forward program in Preston. The role delivers trauma-informed, holistic case management for Aboriginal youth at bail and through court proceedings, coordinating plans and supports to improve justice outcomes.

You will work with Aboriginal communities, police, agencies and families, bringing empathy, cultural safety and strong communication to every interaction. A relevant degree in Case Management or Therapeutic Practices is required.

Qualifications

  • A commitment to VACCA's vision and purpose.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal communities and issues in Australia.
  • Experience in case management with Aboriginal or vulnerable groups.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse stakeholders.
  • Work experience in Youth Justice, AOD, mental health or similar areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed, holistic therapeutic case management for Aboriginal young people at bail and until court hearings.
  • Build self-determined plans and goals to improve justice outcomes.
  • Coordinate intensive case management for clients aged 12–25.
  • Engage with families, staff, Government Departments, police and agency partners.

About the role

VACCA’s Deadly Steps Forward program is a culturally responsive bail support service tailored to support Aboriginal people aged 12-25 years old. Intensive case management at the time of bail includes building self-determined plans and goals and aims to improve justice outcomes and address the underlying challenges faced by each young person that led to involvement with the justice system. Case Managers will provide trauma-informed, holistic therapeutic case management for Aboriginal young people at the time of bail and until court hearings

About You

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose.
  • Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
  • Understanding complex challenges contributing to young people's offending and ability to provide support which may mitigate these underlying factors.
  • Experience in case management with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or vulnerable groups.
  • High level of empathy and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, culturally appropriate and respectful way with a range of stakeholders including staff, Government Departments, Victoria Police, agency partners, young people and their families.
  • Relevant degree or certifications in Case Management and/or Therapeutic Practices (e.g. Trauma-informed Care, Mental Health and AOD, Domestic Violence, Social Work, Community Development or other relevant areas).
  • Work experience in Youth Justice, Case Management, AOD, mental health or similar role.

Requirements

  • Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and aVictorian Driver Licence.Current COVID-19 vaccination(Strongly Recommended)
