Job summary

Tilley's Devine Café Gallery in Canberra's inner north is seeking an Assistant Manager to support the General Manager and Owner in daily operation. You will lead a friendly front-of-house team, uphold our long-standing brand, and ensure service is consistent, welcoming and profitable.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will supervise shifts, coordinate staff, assist with orders and service, oversee safety and cash handling, and maintain presentation.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising or managing a café, restaurant or similar hospitality venue.
• Strong leadership and clear direction.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to stay organised and calm during busy service periods.
• Experience with POS systems and cash handling.
• Availability to work weekends and evenings.
• Relevant food safety and responsible service qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily shifts, including opening and closing the venue.
• Coordinate staff duties, breaks and service priorities.
• Assist with orders, food and beverage delivery, and clearing.
• Maintain brand and atmosphere reflecting the venue history.
• Support staff induction and training.
• Assist with rostering and staffing changes.
• Communicate with the kitchen to manage service timing and dietary needs.
• Monitor cleanliness, food safety and workplace safety standards.
• Oversee POS procedures, cash handling and end-of-shift reconciliation.
• Assist with stock control, ordering and waste reduction.
