Job description

Job Title: Business Development Lead

Location: Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire (Onsite)

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 DOE + Performance-Related Bonus

Office Hours: Monday to Friday 08:30am - 5:00pm (Monday to Friday)

Are you a proven business developer who enjoys creating opportunities rather than waiting for them? Do you thrive in a hands-on role where you can shape strategy, influence growth, and make a visible impact on a growing business?

If this sounds like you, a leading supplier of packaging products and industrial consumables is looking for a Business Development Lead to join its growing commercial team.

About the Company

This well-established, family-owned business has built an excellent reputation over the past 20 years, supplying packaging solutions, machinery, PPE, and consumable products to customers across logistics, warehousing, retail, e-commerce, and distribution sectors. With a £10m turnover, a loyal customer base, and ambitious plans to double revenue over the next five years, this is an exciting time to join a business investing heavily in its people, systems, and future growth.

What’s the role about?

As Business Development Lead, you'll be responsible for driving profitable new business growth while helping to shape the future direction of the company's developing BD function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver agreed new business revenue and gross profit targets.
  • Develop targeted sector plans, identifying high-potential customers and markets.
  • Generate opportunities through proactive outreach, networking, referrals, and lead follow-up.
  • Manage sales opportunities from initial contact through to onboarding.
  • Coach and support colleagues on prospecting activity, opportunity management, and conversion.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and sales forecasts using HubSpot and business systems, leveraging sales data and AI tools to increase efficiency and drive results.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing & operations to maximise campaign-generated opportunities and customer insights.
  • Build relationships with purchasing, operations, and commercial decision-makers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, customer acquisition strategies, and data quality.
About You

You'll ideally bring:

  • A proven track record in B2B business development and winning new business.
  • Experience selling products rather than purely service-based solutions.
  • Background in packaging, consumables, industrial supplies, distribution, manufacturing, or a related sector would be ideal.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or leading less experienced sales colleagues.
  • Confidence using CRM systems and sales data to manage pipelines and forecast performance.
  • A proactive, energetic, and resilient approach.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • An interest in using AI and technology to improve prospecting and sales performance.
What’s in it for you?
  • Opportunity to play a key role in a business with ambitious growth plans.
  • Autonomy to influence strategy and improve commercial processes.
  • Join a supportive, down-to-earth team that values collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Exposure to modern sales technologies, CRM systems, and AI-driven prospecting tools.
  • Competitive salary, pension scheme, and 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
Ready to Make an Impact?

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious business development professional who wants more than just a sales role. You'll have the chance to influence strategy, contribute directly to growth plans, and become a key part of a business with exciting ambitions for the future.
