Job summary

Metropolitan Memorial Parks seeks a dedicated team member to join our Burials Team at the Rookwood General Cemetery in NSW. This hands-on outdoor role focuses on delivering burial services with care and professionalism, working as part of the Burials Team and supporting the grounds maintenance as needed.

Training will be provided for the right person; previous cemetery experience is not essential. A positive attitude, reliability and ability to work in varying weather conditions are important,

Responsibilities

• Undertake burial requirements, including digging, site preparation, backfilling and final presentation under direction.
• Assist with funeral services as required, ensuring duties are carried out respectfully and professionally.
• Identify cemetery sections, grave locations and work areas accurately.
• Assist with general grounds maintenance when requested, helping to keep cemetery grounds safe and well presented.
• Communicate respectfully with Funeral Directors, families, visitors and the public.
• Work as part of the team to complete daily tasks within required timeframes.
• Prioritise personal and team health and safety by following procedures and safe work practices.

About the Role

The primary responsibility of this role is to support the delivery of burial services to the highest standard, ensuring all work is carried out with care, respect and professionalism. You will work as part of the Burials Team and may also assist the grounds maintenance team when required to support the operational needs of the cemetery.

This is a hands‑on outdoor role that requires teamwork, reliability, attention to detail and a respectful approach to the environment we work in.

About You:

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and an interest in building skills in a new industry. While previous industry experience is welcomed, it is not essential as training will be provided for the right person.

Teamwork is an important part of this role, along with the ability to follow instructions, complete tasks within set timeframes and work safely.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

A willingness to learn a new industry and develop practical skills

Reliability and punctuality

The ability to work as part of a team

Confidence working outdoors in various weather conditions

The ability to prioritise tasks and complete work within required timeframes

Availability to work overtime when required, including at least one weekend day per month

A current NSW Driver’s Licence (essential)

A White Card, or willingness to obtain one

An understanding of Work Health and Safety

Excavator, forklift or backhoe experience would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
