Job summary

Charnwood-Dunlop School in West Belconnen, ACT, seeks a Building Services Officer 3 to coordinate maintenance of school buildings, grounds, furniture and equipment, supporting a safe, high‑standard environment for around 400 students.

The role develops and implements annual maintenance programs with the Business Manager, handles urgent repairs, oversees security, and manages risk, safety training, and online systems such as Chemwatch and RC‑WebView.

Building Services Officer 3
Full-time Permanent

Details: Charnwood-Dunlop School is located in West Belconnen and caters for students from preschool to year 6. We provide mainstream and disability education programs, host the Belconnen Intensive English Centre and offer a 3-year-old preschool program. We have approximately 400 students and a staff of 55 including teaching, administrative, and education support staff.

We are seeking a highly motivated, reliable and professional individual who takes pride in their work and is committed to supporting our school community by ensuring our facilities are well maintained, safe and presented to a high standard.

The Building Services Officer (BSO) is responsible for coordinating and undertaking the maintenance of school buildings, grounds, furniture, fittings, and equipment, ensuring all work is completed in accordance with Work, Health and Safety requirements.

This role includes developing, and implementing the annual maintenance program in consultation with the Business Manager, responding to urgent maintenance needs, overseeing the security of the school and maintaining school grounds through regular inspections and prioritised works.

The BSO also undertakes administrative duties, maintains compliance with risk management and safety requirements, manages online systems such as Chemwatch and RC-WebView, and coordinates the receipt, storage, stocktake, and safe movement of equipment and supplies.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

  • A pre-employment medical clearance is required prior to commencement. This assessment is at the cost of the Directorate and not the applicant. If/when a request for registration is in the final stages of completion, contact will be made with the applicant to organise the medical assessment.
  • Mandatory Training in other WHS procedures may be required during employment: for example Working at Heights, Sharps.
  • Mandatory Asbestos Awareness Training: Evidence of completion of training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation for Asbestos Awareness is required prior commencement. For further informationrefer to: Access Canberra
  • Mandatory Crystalline Silica Exposure Training:Evidence of completion of training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation for Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention is required prior to commencement. For further information refer to: WorkSafe website
  • An industry recognised trade qualification or equivalent work experience.
  • A current First Aid certificate.
