Job summary

Fraser Coast Regional Council – Brisbane QLD is seeking a motivated Certified Building Inspector (level 2 or above) to lead building certification functions and provide expert technical advice for safe, compliant development across the region.

You will support the Manager Development Compliance, manage regulatory breaches, and coordinate inspections while ensuring statutory deadlines are met. Remote work is possible with travel to Fraser Coast as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum QBCC Building Certifier Level 2
• Expert knowledge of Building Act 1975, Building Regulation 2006, building codes, local laws and Planning Act 2016
• High level of oral and written communication skills with interpersonal, listening and negotiation abilities
• Demonstrated ability to work within a certification and regulatory team and meet statutory deadlines
• Proficiency in RAMS, Document Management systems and Local Government software; MS Office
• Car License

Responsibilities

• Lead statutory building certification functions across the region.
• Monitor, investigate and report regulatory breaches of illegal build matters.
• Provide expert advice on building certification and compliance to the public.
• Compile evidence for prosecutions and act as court witness when required.
• Coordinate and undertake regular inspections.

• Develop and modify systems to maximise efficiencies and ensure compliance.

About the Role:

We're seeking a motivated Certified Building Inspector (at a level 2 or above) to lead statutory building certification functions, provide expert technical advice, and ensure safe, compliant development across the region.

What your day will look like:

• You will support and assist the Manager Development Compliance and Plumbing Services as Council's principal Building Certifier
• You will manage regulatory breaches by monitoring, investigating and reporting on illegal build matters.
• Provide expert advice to the public on building certification and compliance issues and play a vital role in the safety of the Fraser Coast community.
• Compilation of evidence for prosecutions where required by Council and where appropriate attend court to act as witness on behalf of Council.
• Coordinate and undertake regular inspections
• Manage and assess development applications for building work as required
• Assist in development & implementation of monitoring programs for high-risk premises
• Develop and modify systems to maximise efficiencies and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

What you'll need for success:

• Minimum QBCC Building Certifier Level 2
• Expert knowledge of the Building Act 1975, the building Regulation 2006, relevant building codes, local laws and sound understanding of the Planning Act 2016.
• High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal – listening, advising and negotiation skills
  • Written – correspondence and reports
• Demonstrated ability to work within a certification and regulatory team including the ability to meet all statutory deadlines
• Intermediate to Advanced computer software proficiency in relation to the use of Microsoft Office Suite, RAMS, Document Management systems and other Local Government Software systems
• Car License
