Job summary

Fraser Coast Regional Council is seeking a Catchment Officer to support environmental best‑practice systems, provide technical advice, and contribute to monitoring and reporting to ensure safe, sustainable and compliant water management across the region.

This role focuses on catchment, land management and bulk water programs, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and assisting with water quality monitoring, approvals, permits and investigations under the Water Plan and EMS alignment.

Qualifications

  • AQF7+ degree in environmental or catchment management, science, engineering.
  • Advisory experience in water quality or catchment management.
  • Knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations related to health and environment.
  • Strong report writing and data interpretation skills.
  • High-level communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and corporate systems.
  • QLD Class C or CA driver licence.
  • White Card (General Construction Induction).

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on catchment, land management, allocations and bulk water matters, supported by data analysis, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinate and contribute to catchment, land management and bulk water projects, including risk identification, monitoring and improved work practices.
  • Support water quality monitoring and compliance with the Water Plan (Mary Basin) 2006 (Qld), Drinking Water Quality Management Plan and Catchment Management Plan.
  • Assist with implementation and review of Council’s Environmental Management System (ISO14001).
  • Support community education programs, environmental awareness training and WaterWise initiatives.

What We Are Looking For

We have a rare opportunity for a Catchment Officer to support environmental best‑practice systems, provide technical advice, and contribute to monitoring and reporting to ensure safe, sustainable and compliant water management across the region.

This role plays a key part in total water cycle management. You’ll support the implementation of catchment, land management and bulk water programs, maintain compliance with statutory requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement of Council’s Environmental Management System. The position also assists with water quality monitoring, community education and technical support for approvals, permits and investigations.

What Your Day Will Look Like
  • Provide advice on catchment, land management, allocations and bulk water matters, supported by data analysis, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinate and contribute to catchment, land management and bulk water projects, including risk identification, monitoring and improved work practices.
  • Support water quality monitoring and compliance with the Water Plan (Mary Basin) 2006 (Qld), Drinking Water Quality Management Plan and Catchment Management Plan.
  • Assist with implementation and review of Council’s Environmental Management System (ISO14001).
  • Support community education programs, environmental awareness training and WaterWise initiatives.
What You’ll Need For Success
  • Degree‑level qualification (AQF 7+) in environmental or catchment management, science, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in water quality or catchment management at an advisory level.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations relating to public health, environmental protection and water quality.
  • Strong project skills, including report writing and data interpretation.
  • High‑level communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Competence using Microsoft Office and corporate systems.
  • Class C or CA driver licence (Queensland‑recognised).
  • General Construction Induction (White Card).
What’s Nice To Have
  • Experience with MapInfo or similar GIS platforms.
  • Boat Licence.
  • Working with Children Blue Card.
