Job summary

BAI Communications in Canberra is seeking a Broadcast Technician Team Leader to maintain and enhance transmission systems and critical communications infrastructure while guiding a team of skilled technicians.

In this hands-on leadership role, you'll balance technical expertise with people management, coordinate maintenance with Area Managers, contractors and customers, and drive continuous improvement to ensure network availability and first-class service.

Qualifications

• Qualifications in Electronics, Telecommunications, Broadcasting Systems or a related discipline.
• Experience maintaining RF transmission, broadcast or communications systems.
• Knowledge of safety, compliance and asset management requirements within critical infrastructure operations.
• Ability to lead technical projects from planning through to successful delivery.

As a Broadcast Technician Team Leader, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing transmission systems and critical communications infrastructure while leading a team of skilled technicians. This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll balance technical expertise, people leadership and operational excellence to ensure network availability and customer service commitments are consistently achieved.

Working closely with Area Managers, customers, contractors and internal stakeholders, you'll coordinate maintenance activities, lead specialist projects, support capability development across the team and help drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate preventative and fault maintenance activities across transmission systems and associated infrastructure.
• Assign, monitor and support technician work activities to ensure service delivery targets are achieved.
• Mentor, coach and develop team members, apprentices and technical specialists.
• Lead specialised technical projects with minimal supervision.
• Manage the maintenance and performance of broadcast and communications assets to maximise service availability.
• Support Area Managers with planning, resource management, operational improvements and budgeting activities.
• Coordinate contractors and oversee site maintenance works.
• Ensure compliance with Service Integrity procedures, safety requirements and operational standards.
• Participate in on-call rosters and respond to network incidents as required.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation and performance updates for key stakeholders.
• Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, accountability and continuous learning.

You are an experienced technical leader with a strong background in broadcast, RF or communications infrastructure environments. You enjoy solving complex technical challenges, developing people and taking ownership of critical operational outcomes.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Qualifications in Electronics, Telecommunications, Broadcasting Systems or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining RF transmission, broadcast or communications systems.
• Strong understanding of transmission equipment, control systems and supporting infrastructure.
• Experience diagnosing faults, restoring services and delivering maintenance programs in operational environments.
• Knowledge of safety, compliance and asset management requirements within critical infrastructure operations.
• Ability to lead technical projects from planning through to successful delivery.
• Capability to produce clear technical reports, maintenance records and operational documentation.
• Familiarity with contractor management, site works coordination and stakeholder engagement.
• Current Australian Driver Licence.
