Job description

  • Make a meaningful impact within a well-known non-for-profit organisation

Since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has played a critical role in delivering aeromedical, emergency transport and primary health services to communities across Australia. In Victoria, our focus reflects the evolving needs of rural and regional communities, where access to timely, high-quality healthcare remains a challenge. Alongside air and road patient transport, our services are complemented by a broad range of primary health programs designed to improve health outcomes and service accessibility.

About the Role

We are currently in an exciting phase of growth and transformation, strengthening our leadership capability to support our future operations and continued service excellence. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on providing onsite supervision, supporting teams day-to-day, and building strong relationships, morale and team culture across branches. Therefore, we are seeking an experienced and people-focused Branch Manager to provide operational leadership across the branches Wonthaggi and Foster. This role is responsible for-suring the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of services, while fostering strong team performance, compliance and strong community relationships. As Branch Manager, you will lead and support Ambulance Attendants, Patient Transport Officers, and our volunteers in Community Services, while overseeing the day-to-day operations across the branches. This role involves regular travel between branch locations to ensure consistent support, alignment, and operational effectiveness across all sites.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead and oversee multi-site operations, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with organisational standards and community expectations
  • Provide strong people leadership, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, engagement and development of our operation teams
  • Ensure compliance and risk management, maintaining adherence to WHS/OHS, governance, regulatory requirements and effective incident management processes
  • Manage resources and operational performance, including operational workforce planning, asset utilisation, budgets and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, working collaboratively with local health services, community partners and RFDS teams while providing clear reporting to the Regional Manager
To be successful, you will need:
  • Proven leadership and operational management experience in a complex, fast-paced environment, with the ability to oversee multi-site operations; experience in healthcare, emergency services or a community-focused organisation is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong people leadership capability, with demonstrated experience in recruitment, team development, employee engagement and performance management
  • Sound understanding of governance, compliance and WHS/OHS, with the ability to manage operational risk, incidents and continuous improvement effectively
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Management, Health Administration, Community Services or a related field, with relevant workplace safety certifications (e.g., Fire Warden, First Aid) or willingness to obtain
  • Role-specific requirements, including residence within commuting distance of the nominated branch locations, the ability to work on site across those locations, a current Australian driver’s licence, willingness to travel, right to work in Australia, and completion of, or willingness to complete, required checks (e.g. National Police Check, WWCC)
What working at RFDS can offer you:
  • A permanent full-time on-site position, offering flexibility in how you manage your presence across multiple branch locations
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Access to salary packaging options to reduce your taxable income
  • Fitness passport – a discounted gym membership to gyms and pools that both you and your family can enjoy
  • Access to discounted private health insurance
  • Great parental leave benefits in addition to government parental leave
