Job summary

MW Recruitment is seeking an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to lead a Canberra bookkeeping division within a growing accounting firm. You will oversee a team, manage client relationships and ensure high-quality, timely work across trades, hospitality and NFP clients.

In this leadership role you will mentor bookkeepers, coordinate workflows, review BAS/IAS, and collaborate with partners to grow the bookkeeping function. A view to progression to practice lead is available with flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years bookkeeping experience, public practice ideal.
• Registered BAS Agent or in progress is highly regarded.
• Strong knowledge of GST, payroll, STP and superannuation compliance.
• Experience leading or supervising a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of bookkeepers.
• Manage workflow, allocate jobs and ensure deadlines are met.
• Review BAS, IAS and bookkeeping outputs produced by the team.
• Oversee payroll, STP reporting and superannuation obligations.
• Act as main contact for a diverse portfolio of clients across trades, hospitality and NFPs.
• Liaise with accounting and tax teams for clean year-end handovers.
• Onboard new clients and set up efficient processes and software.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems, automation and service delivery.

Bookkeeping Manager | Canberra | Up to $115K + Super

Lead a bookkeeping team within a growing Canberra accounting firm and take ownership of a diverse client portfolio.

About The Role

Our client is a well established Canberra accounting firm offering business services, tax and advisory to a loyal base of SME clients. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to lead their bookkeeping division. This is a key leadership role where you will oversee the team, manage client relationships and ensure high quality, timely work across a varied client base spanning trades, hospitality and not for profit organisations. You will work closely with the partners and accounting team, and play an active part in shaping how the bookkeeping function grows.

What You Will Be Doing

• Leading, mentoring and developing a team of bookkeepers
• Managing workflow, allocating jobs and ensuring deadlines are met
• Reviewing BAS, IAS and bookkeeping work prepared by the team
• Overseeing payroll, STP reporting and superannuation obligations
• Acting as the main point of contact for a diverse portfolio of trades, hospitality and NFP clients
• Liaising with the accounting and tax team to ensure clean year end handovers
• Onboarding new clients and setting up efficient processes and software
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, automation and service delivery

What We Are Looking For

• Minimum 5 years bookkeeping experience, ideally within public practice
• Previous experience managing or supervising a team
• Registered BAS Agent or working towards registration (highly regarded)
• Strong knowledge of GST, payroll, STP and superannuation compliance
• Advanced skills in Xero, with MYOB and QuickBooks experience a plus
• Excellent communication skills and a client focused approach
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
