Job summary

DGH Engineering in Gladstone, Queensland, is seeking a hands-on fabricator/welder to read drawings, mark out, cut, grind and weld steel beams, pipes and plates. The role offers both workshop and on-site work with casual or permanent options.

You will perform QA checks, fill inspection sheets, and operate forklifts, cranes and a bandsaw. The work may involve confined spaces and long periods of grinding or welding, with reliability and PPE compliance essential.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand drawings, specifications and weld procedures.
• Set up items to be welded, fabricated or pressure tested.
• Weld/fabricate items as per drawings with minimal rework.
• Use a range of electrical and/or air-powered tools.
• Oxy cutting and machine cutting of steel materials.
• Operate workshop plant and equipment (Forklift, Overhead Cranes, Bandsaw).
• Perform a SLAM prior to any task.
• Perform QA checks and complete product inspection sheets.

About the role

You will be required to fabricate, mark out, cut, grind and weld steel beams, pipes and plates. A high standard of quality is expected, and you will need to perform routine QA checks and fill out product inspection sheets daily. The weight can vary greatly from 1 kg to several hundred kg's. The work may require continuous welding or grinding for long periods. At times these activities will have to be performed in awkward positions, in restricted and / or confined spaces.

Key responsibilities

• Read and understand drawings, drawing specifications and / or weld procedures
• Set up of items to be welded, fabricated or pressure tested
• Weld / fabricate items as per drawing specifications and with minimal rework
• Use a vast range of electrical and / or air powered tools
• Oxy cutting / machine cutting of steel materials
• Operate workshop plant and equipment e.g. Forklift, Overhead Cranes and Bandsaw
• Perform a SLAM prior to conducting any task
• Perform QA checks throughout the job and complete product inspection sheets
