Job summary

AECI Limited is seeking a Blast Technician to support on-site blasting operations across Queensland. You will drive drill-and-blast optimisation, deliver training on IntelliShot and other systems, and provide technical solutions to site teams, with potential domestic and international travel.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Blast engineer or equivalent (desirable).
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
• Minimum 5 years’ practical experience in drill and blasting operations.
• Experience delivering product applications, training and competency.
• Current or ability to obtain knowledge of AECI product applications.
• Hold Queensland Explosive Security Clearance.
• Hold or ability to obtain NSW Explosive security clearance UHL.
• Hold and maintain QLD Shotfirer’s licence.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Proficient with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; comfortable with technical software.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally where required.

Job description

With significant growth across our business, this is an excellent opportunity to join our expanding Technical Services team. As a Blast Technician, you will play a key role in delivering technical solutions that improve customer outcomes, supporting operational teams on site, assisting with project mobilisations, conducting training, and managing product applications.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this role works across our Queensland portfolio on a 7/7 equal-time roster and includes a fully maintained company vehicle. As the business continues to grow, the position offers exposure to a diverse range of sites, projects, and technologies, providing strong opportunities for professional development and career progression within a growing organisation. Reasonable travel will be required as part of the role.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

Identify, design and implement operational and technical drill-and-blast optimisation projects

Provide technical blasting support and solutions to customers and site teams

Manage and optimise product application; identify and resolve software and hardware issues

Deliver training and competency assessments for IntelliShot (electronic blasting system) and other relevant systems

Monitor blasting performance, conduct on-bench QA/QC checks and product performance testing

Prepare clear technical reports and performance summaries for internal and customer use

Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders; maintain regular communication and follow-up

Lead and contribute to technical and operational continuous improvement initiatives

Ensure strict adherence to AECl’s site safety protocols, explosives handling procedures and regulatory requirements

Escalate and manage service delivery and maintenance issues through established processes

The Successful Applicant Will Possess:

Tertiary qualification in Blast engineer or equivalent experience (desirable)

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Minimum 5 years’ practical experience in drill and blasting operations

Experience delivering product applications, training and competency

Current or the ability to obtain knowledge of AECI product applications

Hold Queensland Explosive Security Clearance

Hold or the ability to obtain New South Wales Explosive security clearance UHL (unsupervised handling licence)

Hold and maintain QLD Shotfirer’s licence

Valid driver’s licence

Proficient with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; comfortable with technical software

Ability to travel domestically and internationally where required
