Job summary

Orica is seeking Bench Assistants for the North Surface Coal team in Central Queensland. You will join a team delivering bulk explosive services on a 7 days on/7 days off roster, with on-site work and camp facilities provided for the roster.

You will assist shotfirers and MMU operators, help with loading explosives, and work closely with teammates to ensure safe, reliable service for customers. A strong safety mindset and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated work history in physically demanding jobs in all weather conditions.
• Ability to pass all required security checks to obtain QLD Explosives Security Clearance.
• Ability to pass pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screen.
• Positive, team-based attitude and willingness to learn.
• Basic mechanical comprehension is advantageous.

• Assist with hands-on delivery of explosive products, drilling and loading in blast holes.

We are delighted to announce that we are currently seeking applications for multiple Bench Assistants to join our North Surface Coal Team in Central Queensland!

As a Bench Assistant, you will be part of a team delivering high-quality bulk explosive services to customers, always prioritizing safety and care for the environment. You will work alongside the Shotfirer or On Bench Supervisors on-site, helping with tasks like loading, tying, and firing blasts. These roles will be Drive-in Drive-out (DIDO), operating mostly on a 7 days on/7 days off rosters, and camp facilities will be provided for the duration of the roster.

What you will be doing

• Assisting shotfirers and Mobile Manufacturing Unit (MMU) Truck Operators as required;
• Assisting with the hands-on delivery of explosive products, drilling and loading explosives in blast holes;
• Working in tight unison with your team mates to provide excellent service to our valued customers;
• Demonstrating and setting an example of our key company value: ‘Safety is our Priority, Always’; and
• Acting with integrity and respect at all times.

What you will bring

• Demonstrated work history in physically demanding jobs working in all types of weather;
• The ability to pass all required security checks in which to obtain a QLD Explosives Security Clearance (a clean criminal history);
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screen;
• An excellent, positive and team-based attitude where you look out for your team mates;
• A basic mechanical comprehension is advantageous, but not essential; and
• A willingness to learn and a focus on career development.
