Modus is a craft brewery in Newcastle, looking for a Bar Supervisor to lead the team on shifts, pour drinks and manage the bar operations. The role is hands-on, with 15–25 hours per week, offering leadership experience and flexible casual hours in a vibrant venue.

You'll supervise, train staff, manage taps and cellar, and ensure RSA compliance while delivering an exceptional guest experience. A NSW RSA and passion for beer are essential.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of bartending experience in a busy venue.
• Current NSW RSA competency card.
• Genuine interest in craft beer and cocktails.
• Keg and cellar experience or willingness to learn.
• Calm, positive attitude under pressure with guest-first approach.
• Confidence using POS systems.
• Weekend and evening availability.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the bar team on shift by delegating sections, running breaks and keeping service fast and friendly during busy periods.
• Lead from the front behind the bar, pouring beer, making cocktails and serving guests.
• Make sure the team knows the tap list and can guide guests through styles, tasting paddles and new releases.
• Look after the cellar and taps, including keg changes, line checks, gas and glassware standards, so every beer tastes the way the brewers intended.
• Open and close the bar, including setup, pack-down, cleaning and handover.
• Support bar service for functions and events.
• Help with stock counts, restocking and ordering as required.
• Train and support newer bar staff on shift.
• Uphold RSA and licensing requirements at all times, and step in to manage difficult situations calmly.
• Handle guest feedback and elevate issues to management where needed.

About Modus

Modus is an independent, award-winning craft brewery that started on Sydney's Northern Beaches and now calls Newcastle home. Our Merewether venue sits alongside a fully operational brewery. It holds up to 300 guests and pours brewery-fresh beer from 36 taps, including our non-alcoholic NORT range and limited local-only releases, plus cocktails, wine and spirits. The Role

We're looking for a Bar Supervisor to lead the bar team on shift and keep our 36 taps flowing. It's a hands-on role, and you'll be behind the bar pouring alongside the crew. You'll also run the bar during your shifts, looking after the team, service standards, the cellar and the guest experience. At 15–25 hours a week, it's a great fit for an experienced bartender who wants leadership experience with flexibility.

What You'll Do

What You'll Bring

• At least [1–2] years of bartending experience in a busy venue, with some supervisory or senior bartender experience.
• A current NSW RSA competency card (essential).
• A genuine interest in craft beer, and cocktail skills to back it up.
• Keg and cellar experience, or a willingness to learn it properly.
• A calm, positive attitude under pressure and a friendly, guest-first approach.
• Confidence using POS systems.
• Availability for weekends and evenings, as these are our busiest periods.
