Job summary

Qantas Airways is seeking a Back-End Developer to guide architecture, delivery and development of scalable backend systems at our Adelaide Product Innovation Centre. You will lead by example, delivering high-quality software that meets reliability and security standards.

In this role you’ll work with Java/Spring, AWS and modern tooling to build high-traffic services, ensure performance, and uphold data privacy. Join a team passionate about innovation and customer experiences.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a hands-on Software Engineering role.
• Experience building high-traffic backend applications.
• Proficient in back-end tech (Java, Spring/Spring Boot) and databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
• Understanding of cloud-native development on AWS.
• Familiar with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).
• Strong observability with Splunk or Datadog.

As a Back-End Developer, you'llbe responsible forguiding and leading the architecture, delivery and development of the software systems that power our business unit. Ahands-on, highly skilled software developer with the experience todive into codeto deliver high quality, well-designed software. You willshareresponsibilityfor the quality of the software being built, including but not limitedto;achieving desired business outcomes, meeting reliability and performance expectations and safely managing security and data privacy concerns.

You'llhave:

• 3+years in a hands-on Software Engineering role
• Experience building high-traffic backend applications
• Working experience with back-end technologies (i.e Java, Spring / Spring Boot) and databases (e.g PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc)
• Understanding of cloud-native development on platforms such as AWS, including deployment, scaling, and operational considerations
• Containerisation technology concepts, such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions), version control (Git), and automated testing practices
• Experience using observability and monitoring tools (e.g Splunk, Datadog, or similar) to support production systems
• A real passion for quality, cleancodeand continuous improvement
• An understanding of architectural concepts and cloud-based solution design
• Highly dedicated ethos - expected to take very real accountability for the workyou'redoing
• A test and learn mindset with curiosity,collaborationand care
• Experience writing multi-threaded, asynchronous code
• Experience with Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe Edge Delivery Services desirable
