St John of God Health Care Geelong Hospital seeks an experienced Associate Midwifery Unit Manager to lead the maternity service and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team. The role provides clinical leadership across Birth Suite, Postnatal and Special Care Nursery, ensuring safe, woman‑centred care.

The position is permanent part‑time (0.59 FTE) with a rotating roster and a competitive salary package, including 12% superannuation and salary packaging options.

The Position

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Associate Midwifery Unit Manager (AMUM) to join our Women and Newborn Services team. In this role, you will support the leadership and coordination of the maternity service while working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality and compassionate care.

Working on a permanent part‑time basis 0.59 FTE, you will provide clinical leadership and operational support across Birth Suite, Postnatal and Special Care Nursery , ensuring the delivery of safe, high‑quality, woman‑centred care.

The Position:

• Monitors staff levels against budget/target levels related to number of bed days, occupancy and patient acuity. Adjusts staffing levels in consultation with the Unit Manager and/or Coordinator according to changes in levels.
• Provide leadership and direction to team in the absence of the Nursing Unit Manager and act as a role model and resource person.
• Responsible for assisting the Nurse Unit Manager in following issues pertaining to human resources within the department and will assume full responsibility in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager.
• Monitors staff levels against budget/target levels related to number of bed days, occupancy and patient acuity. Adjusts staffing levels in consultation with the Unit Manager and/or Coordinator according to changes in levels.
• Maintains and promotes harmonious interpersonal relationships and effective team work between staff, patient, relative, doctors and ancillary staff.
• Participate as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment Provide leadership and direction to team in the absence of the Nursing Unit Manager and act as a role model and resource person.
• Participate in, contribute to and implement quality improvement and risk management into all aspects of service.
• Participate in the documentation of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures for activities that could pose an OHS risk.
• Raise OHS issues with appropriate caregivers and take part in OHS consultative arrangements.
• Demonstrates progress towards the achievement of goals and personal and professional growth.

You will have a registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Midwife or Registered Midwife and have well developed analytical and problem solving skills and knowledge of acts and legislation that impact on the practice of nursing. With demonstrated ability to develop and build effective nursing, medical and interdisciplinary relationships and teams

To succeed, you will demonstrate strong delegation, planning, organisational and motivational skills, supported by solid clinical experience in Birth Suite (essential). You will have demonstrated leadership or acting‑in‑charge experience, a commitment to ongoing education and self‑directed learning, and the ability to effectively communicate and educate patients, families and staff. You will also be able to work confidently across a rotating AM/PM/Night Duty roster.

We can offer you

• Salary: $120,835 - $124,903 (pro rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation
• Permanent part-time position working 45 hours per fortnight
