Job summary

The Royal Women's Hospital is seeking an Associate Unit Manager – Midwifery in Parkville. This role partners with Midwife Unit Managers to lead the maternity team across birth centre, assessment, antenatal and postnatal areas, overseeing both clinical and administrative operations.

Qualifications

  • Midwife Registration with AHPRA is required.
  • Level 3 practitioner in RANZCOG Fetal Surveillance Education Program required.
  • Four years of clinical midwifery experience across the continuum of care.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of the management team, providing clinical and managerial support.
  • Ensure high quality care in line with Clinical Practice Guidelines and legislative requirements.
  • Liaise with managers and staff to support service delivery.
  • Provide role modelling, coaching and contribute to team goals.
  • Promote family-centred care and advocacy with culturally sensitive midwifery care.

About the role:

As an Associate Unit Manager (AUM) within Maternity, you will work collaboratively with the Midwife Unit Managers (MUM) to provide leadership and support to the maternity team, and lead the delivery of care to women and their families. The role will allow you to work across the maternity continuum – Birth centre, assessment centre, antenatal ward, and postnatal wards. You’ll support the administrative operation of the department, as well as clinical management of the service.

A regular day will see you:

  • Participates as an active member of the management team by providing clinical, supervisory, managerial and collegial support to the Midwifery Management Team.
  • Ensuring provision of high quality care in accordance with the Women’s Clinical Practice Guidelines, scope of practice and legislative requirements.
  • Liaise with the Access Manager/After Hours Manager and other staff members as required
  • Act as a supportive and positive role model, providing constructive learning experiences and coaching opportunities, and facilitate individual and team goals
  • Respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of women and significant others in the provision of culturally sensitive midwifery care

You will be someone with strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build collaborative working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You’ll have excellent problem-solving capability, and take a flexible and adaptable approach to your work.

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

  • Midwife Registration with AHPRA and Level 3 practitioner in RANZCOG Fetal Surveillance Education Program
  • Four (4) years relevant clinical Midwifery experience across the continuum of midwifery care
  • Ability, or willingness, to work across the midwifery continuum (antenatal ward, postnatal ward, and birth centre) across all shifts on a rotating roster
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, and time manage
  • Have a high level of responsibility and accountability
  • A demonstrated commitment to family-centred care and advocacy
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership skills while promoting ongoing learning and education for all staff in the team contributing to a positive staff morale and team cohesiveness
  • Prioritise collaborative care and communication within the multidisciplinary framework
  • Experience in IVC insertion, applying Fetal Scalp Electrodes (FSE), performing ARMs and examination of the newborn
