SA Health invites applications for an Associate Midwifery Unit Manager within the Flinders Medical Centre’s Women’s & Children’s Division. Lead a diverse cohort across antenatal, postnatal, and gynaecology services, shaping care quality and workforce effectiveness.

You will work within a dynamic leadership team, driving safe patient flow, governance improvements, and staff development while delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to women and families.

Qualifications

  • Registered Midwife with at least 3 years post-registration experience.
  • Experience in leadership and direction of student midwives, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses and midwives.
  • Competence in gynaecology/gynaecology oncology nursing & midwifery practice.
  • Adaptable and confident in managing a diverse and changing clinical environment; committed to quality improvement, innovation, and workforce excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible clinical and operational leadership across the ward.
  • Support excellence in woman-centred and family-centred care.
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow and safe workforce management.

About the role:

An exciting opportunity exists for an Associate Midwifery Unit Manager (AMUM) to join the Ward 4SMG leadership team at Flinders Medical Centre. This role offers the unique opportunity to lead and influence care across a varied patient cohort, providing exceptional professional growth while making a meaningful difference to women, babies, and families.

In partnership with the Midwifery Unit Manager, you will:

  • Provide visible clinical and operational leadership across the ward.
  • Support excellence in woman-centred and family-centred care.
  • Facilitate efficient patient flow and safe workforce management.
  • Drive quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical governance initiatives.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop nursing and midwifery staff.
  • Foster a positive culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Support the delivery of high-quality care to a diverse patient population with varying clinical needs.
About you:
  • Registered Midwife with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience or currently classified as a Clinical Midwife (Dual Registration as a Nurse/Midwife is highly desired).
  • Experience in the leadership and direction of student midwives, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses and midwives.
  • Demonstrated competence in gynaecology/gynaecology oncology nursing & midwifery practice in accordance with the relevant standards.
  • Adaptable and confident in managing a diverse and ever-changing clinical environment. Committed to quality improvement, innovation, and workforce excellence. An effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative multidisciplinary setting.
