Job description

North Projects is a specialist advisor and consultancy to property, construction, and development projects nationally. We deliver successful project outcomes by managing cost, scope, risk, design, feasibility, and programme. Our clients include State governments, local councils, company boards, financiers, developers, builders, governments, PPP Sponsors and tertiary education providers.

The Opportunity

North Projects is seeking an experienced cost management and commercial advisory professional to join our Queensland team at Associate level.

We are looking for an established consulting quantity surveyor, cost manager or engineering professional with experience advising clients across the development, procurement and delivery of major infrastructure projects.

The role will suit someone who has developed a broad understanding of project costs, commercial management and construction delivery, and can apply that experience to provide independent, practical advice to clients.

Working alongside our established estimating, planning, risk and commercial advisory teams, you will lead cost management engagements, support complex project decisions and contribute to the delivery of major infrastructure programmes.

The position provides an opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from early cost planning and feasibility through procurement, construction and final account, while contributing to the continued development of North's advisory capability.

About the role

You will:

  • Lead cost management and quantity surveying engagements across major infrastructure projects, providing independent advice on project budgets, cost plans, estimates and commercial outcomes
  • Prepare and review feasibility estimates, cost plans, detailed estimates, cash flow forecasts and cost reports throughout project development and delivery
  • Advise on procurement strategies, tender documentation, tender evaluations, contract packaging and commercial considerations associated with project delivery
  • Undertake post-contract cost management, including progress payment assessments, variations, change management, cost forecasting and final account assessments
  • Assess construction methodologies, project programmes, productivity assumptions and delivery risks to inform cost planning and commercial advice
  • Undertake independent cost reviews, value engineering assessments and commercial risk analysis, identifying opportunities to improve cost certainty and project outcomes
  • Manage client engagements, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and ensuring the quality, consistency and timely delivery of advisory outputs
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with government and private sector clients, contractors and project teams, providing clear and commercially sound advice.
  • Contribute to proposals, business development activities and the identification of new client opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to developing cost management and estimating professionals.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and estimators, supporting the development of North's broader team capability.
About You

You will bring:

  • An established background in consulting quantity surveying, cost management, civil engineering or construction-related commercial advisory, with substantial experience across major infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrated experience providing pre-contract and post-contract cost management services, including cost planning, estimating, procurement, contract administration and commercial reporting
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project delivery, programme development and the principal cost and risk drivers affecting major infrastructure projects
  • Experience leading consulting engagements, managing technical deliverables and providing independent advice to clients
  • Sound commercial judgement and the ability to assess complex project information, challenge assumptions and provide practical recommendations
  • Experience working with government agencies, infrastructure owners, contractors or major private sector clients
  • The technical credibility and client management capability to operate independently while contributing to multidisciplinary advisory teams

Practical construction delivery or project management experience will be highly regarded, as will experience across transport, rail, energy, water and other major infrastructure sectors.
