Job summary

Single O café in Surry Hills is seeking an Assistant Manager who thrives in a busy hospitality setting and loves coaching a team. You will assist the Café Manager and Head Barista, take floor leadership when needed, and help sustain Single O's renowned service quality and customer experience.

This hands-on role focuses on staff development, smooth operations, and delivering warm, engaging service from welcome to checkout.

Responsibilities

• Manage customer enquiries relating to invoices, payments, statements, credits and account balances.
• Support the Café Manager and Head Barista with day-to-day café operations, leading the floor and team when the Café Manager is away.
• Deliver warm, welcoming and efficient customer service, confidently recommending specials, menu items and coffee.
• Keep the café clean and presentable, ensuring tables are prepared and turned over smoothly.
• Process customer payments, including comps, voids and refunds, and resolve and record customer compliments and complaints.
• Maintain opening, cleaning and closing standards, and comply with workplace health and safety obligations.
• Support staff rostering, new team member inductions, training and coaching.
• Keep the team informed of menu changes, coffee offerings and café processes, working closely with senior baristas and the kitchen team.
• Gather staff and customer feedback, communicate concerns to the Café Manager, and help resolve team issues promptly.
• Keep retail shelves stocked with an appropriate mix of blends and origins, and welcome wholesale clients.
• Participate in cupping sessions and industry events as appropriate.
• Identify opportunities to improve service and café processes, troubleshoot daily issues, and assist with banking, ordering, invoices and other tasks as required.

We're looking for an Assistant Manager to help lead our Surry Hills café. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves hospitality, thrives in a busy café, and gets excited about developing people, keeping service running smoothly, and giving customers a reason to come back.

You'll support our Café Manager and Head Barista in day-to-day operations, take the lead on the floor when the Café Manager is away, and help deliver the fun, unique and exceptional service Single O is known for.

From a warm welcome to a smooth table turnaround, you'll bring care to every part of the customer experience while keeping the team supported, the café looking sharp, and daily operations humming.

• Experience working in busy hospitality environments and delivering great service under pressure.
• Experience running a floor service and leading a team.
• Strong communication skills and confidence recommending food and coffee.
• Experience supporting staff training, coaching and inductions.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• A practical approach to problem-solving and improving café operations.
• Experience preparing and serving espresso and filter coffee is a huge bonus.
