Job summary

Hunter New England Local Health District's Singleton Hospital is offering a casual Assistant in Midwifery role. You will provide postnatal care, breastfeeding support and assist with care plans alongside the Maternity team.

Enrolment in the Bachelor of Midwifery and completion of Midwifery Practice & Woman with Complex Care Needs A-MIDI 2105 are required. You will work within Level 2/3 maternity care and be supported by a dedicated team.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in the Bachelor of Midwifery program at University of Newcastle in second year, first semester or third year.
  • Currently enrolled or successfully completed Midwifery Practice & Woman with Complex Care Needs A-MIDI 2105.

Responsibilities

  • Provide postnatal care including breastfeeding support and observing postnatal care plans.
  • Attend to postnatal care plans in collaboration with the Maternity team.
  • Support women and newborns and promote safety and quality in the workplace.

We are excited to offer this opportunity for passionate, caring, and committed midwifery students to join our team at Singleton Maternity! Our successful candidates will be working with women, families and midwives in a supportive role as an Assistant in Midwifery . On any given day, you will be providing postnatal care in the form of breastfeeding support, observations, and attending to postnatal care plans. This role offers clinical support which is available from the education, management and midwifery team. You will be working collaboratively within the team to support women and newborns and promote safety and quality in the workplace.

You won’t be working alone. The Maternity team at Singleton Hospital are a small but close-knit team with a famously positive culture that works well together with the GP Obstetricians to provide a high level of care to their patients. You will be supported by the team as well as other Maternity Unit Managers in hospitals throughout the region, as well as the Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC) and the WHAM Network.

The Maternity Unit at Singleton Hospital provides Level 2 & Level 3 care to their patients and provide shared care with the GP Obstetricians. Due to the small size of the town, you will enjoy getting to know the women that you care for closely, in turn being able to provide the highest level of care to them
