Job description

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Join a leading, well-established hospitality business in North Brisbane with over four decades of history and strong community connections. Operating across dining, bars, gaming, sports and functions, the business offers a diverse and well-established operation backed by significant recent investment. Its long-standing presence, multiple revenue streams and commitment to quality hospitality reflect a solid foundation for continued growth and long-term career opportunities.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

An established, recently transformed hospitality venue in North Brisbane is seeking a driven Assistant General Manager to help lead operations, strengthen business performance and develop a high-performing team. Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll oversee diverse operations across dining, bars, gaming and functions, with the opportunity to influence results, elevate guest experiences and drive continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on leadership role for an ambitious hospitality professional ready to make an impact and progress towards General Management.

THE ROLE

As Assistant General Manager, you’ll help drive the overall performance of a busy, multi‑faceted venue. With a strong operational focus, you’ll balance visible team leadership with commercial oversight, ensuring service standards, people performance and business results remain on track.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading daily operations across food and beverage, bars, gaming, TAB, functions and other venue services.
  • Supporting the General Manager in achieving sales, profitability and broader business objectives.
  • Inspiring, coaching and developing a large, diverse team of managers, supervisors and frontline employees.
  • Managing workforce planning, rostering, labour costs and productivity to maintain efficient operations.
  • Identifying opportunities to grow revenue, improve margins and enhance the customer experience.
  • Monitoring financial performance, including P&L results, stock control and operational expenditure.
  • Maintaining high standards of presentation, service delivery, gaming operations, security and regulatory compliance.
  • Partnering with kitchen and front‑of‑house leaders to improve service quality and consistency.
  • Coordinating functions, promotions, special events and peak trading periods.
  • Building strong relationships with regular customers and contributing to the venue’s community reputation.
  • Taking ownership of operational challenges and implementing practical improvements.
  • Stepping into broader operational leadership when the General Manager is unavailable.
  • You’ll have the backing of an experienced leadership team, with the autonomy to take initiative, influence decisions and turn improvement ideas into action.
ABOUT YOU

You’re a confident, commercially minded hospitality professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. You know how to bring people together, maintain high standards under pressure and balance exceptional service with sound business decisions.

You may currently be an Assistant General Manager, Venue Manager, Operations Manager or General Manager looking for a fresh challenge in a dynamic, high‑volume setting.

You’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a busy pub, hotel, club or comparable hospitality operation.
  • Strong operational knowledge across food and beverage, with experience in gaming and related compliance highly regarded.
  • The ability to lead, motivate and develop large teams while holding people accountable.
  • A sound understanding of venue financials, including P&L, labour costs, sales performance and stock control.
  • Experience with rostering, workforce management and improving operational efficiency.
  • A practical, visible leadership style and a willingness to get involved wherever needed.
  • Strong communication, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
  • The confidence to manage competing priorities and respond effectively during peak trading.
  • A customer‑focused mindset and the ability to build positive relationships across all levels.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, team development and commercial growth.

Above all, you take ownership, lead by example and genuinely enjoy the energy and challenge of hospitality.

WHAT’S ON OFFER?

This opportunity combines the scale and variety of a busy entertainment venue with the support of an established management structure and the chance to progress your career.

You can look forward to:

  • Attractive remuneration: Indicative salary of $120,000–$150,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience and capability.
  • Performance incentives: Potential bonus opportunities linked to the role and business performance.
  • Career progression: A genuine opportunity to develop towards General Manager responsibilities.
  • Leadership support: Work alongside experienced senior management who value initiative and accountability.
  • A refreshed workplace: Join a venue that has undergone substantial investment and is focused on its next phase of growth.
  • Meaningful responsibility: Influence operational standards, commercial outcomes and the development of future leaders.

  • A people‑focused culture: Help build a positive workplace where teamwork, development and customer experience matter.
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

This is a full‑time, senior operational role requiring flexibility around business needs, including weekends and key trading periods. The roster is expected to focus predominantly on mid shifts, with opening and closing shifts required occasionally.
