Bracken Ridge Tavern in Brisbane's north is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to lead from the floor in a busy, multi-faceted pub. This hands-on role focuses 80% on operations and 20% admin, partnering with the GM to deliver outstanding service, gaming, food and beverage, and events across a large venue.
You will mentor a diverse hospitality team, maintain high standards, manage rosters and costs, and own the venue's P&L during peak periods.
Bracken Ridge Tavern (BRT) is a busy, multifaceted venue with something for everyone – families enjoying a meal, sports fans watching the game, gaming and TAB customers, functions and celebrations, local regulars at the bar, and a strong community following. The BRT has been family owned and operated for over 40 years.
BRT is a venue where no two days are the same. We recently invested $10 million in a full renovation of the venue, and we're looking for an experienced hospitality operator to join our senior leadership team and help take the business forward. You'll be joining a venue where there is already a solid foundation – but also genuine opportunity to improve performance, develop people and contribute new ideas. You'll work closely with experienced senior management and have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the venue rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
This is an opportunity for someone who understands what makes a great pub work – people, customers, standards, commercial performance and genuine community connection.
We're looking for an experienced Assistant General Manager who is highly visible, hands-on and comfortable taking responsibility across a large, busy venue.
This is not a role for someone who wants to spend their week behind a desk - 80% operational and 20% administrative
You'll be a senior operational leader on the floor, working closely with the General Manager and leadership team to ensure the venue operates at a consistently high standard.
You'll be across the business – supporting our bars, restaurant, gaming, functions, and overall customer experience – while leading and developing the team around you.
When the venue is busy, you'll be there with your team.
When something isn't working, you'll take ownership and get it sorted.
You'll have the support of an experienced senior leadership structure, but we're looking for someone who is comfortable making decisions, solving problems and taking ownership.
You may currently be an General Manager, Assistant General Manager or Venue Managerin a high-volume pub, club, hotel or hospitality venue.
What matters most is that you understand high-volume hospitality and know how to lead people.
You'll ideally have experience across a combination of food & beverage, gaming, compliance, rostering, labour management and venue operations, together with a strong understanding of commercial performance.
You'll describe yourself as someone who:
You don't need to have all the answers.
We're looking for someone who is commercially minded, emotionally intelligent, hands-on and hungry to make a difference.
We believe good operators need to be present when the business needs them, but we also believe in building sustainable teams and sensible rostering. This is a senior operational hospitality position and will require flexibility around the needs of the business, working weekends and key trading periods. The role will be predominantly mid shifts, with opening/closing shifts as an exception.
Salary will be determined based on experience, capability and the level of responsibility the successful candidate can take on.
We're particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated they can successfully lead large teams and high-volume hospitality operations and are ready to take the next step in their career.
This is an opportunity to join an established Brisbane pub with strong local recognition, a loyal customer base and a broad range of revenue streams.
You'll be joining a venue where there is already a solid foundation – but also genuine opportunity to improve performance, develop people and contribute new ideas.
You'll work closely with experienced senior management and have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the venue rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
For the right person, this could be the role that takes you from strong venue operator to future General Manager.
If you're a hands-on hospitality leader who enjoys busy venues, knows how to get the best out of people and wants to be part of a well-established North Brisbane community pub, we'd like to hear from you.
