Job summary

Suncorp is seeking an Assistant Finance Analyst to join the CFO Insurance - Finance & Advice team in Sydney. This entry-level role offers exposure to financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end processes within a supportive, collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will work on month-end activities, journal processing, and management reporting, while building knowledge of key business drivers and reporting tools.

What you'll be doing

• Support month-end finance activities, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of financial results.
• Prepare and process accounting journals, reconciliations, and variance investigations.
• Proactively investigate and resolve data variances and reconciliation issues.
• Assist with monthly management reporting, Board reporting, and Half-Year and Full-Year external reporting activities.
• Contribute to forecasting and budgeting activities through financial analysis and insights.
• Identify and implement process improvements to simplify reporting and improve processes, contributing to transformation and continuous improvement activities.
• Partner with stakeholders across Finance & Advice to support performance reporting and business decision-making.
• Develop an understanding of key business drivers, trends, and financial performance outcomes.

What we're looking for

Essential

• Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
• Up to 2 years' experience in accounting, finance, business analysis, or analytical roles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Inquisitive mindset with the ability to identify trends, investigate variances, and deliver meaningful insights.
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems and reporting tools.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities and delivering accurate work within tight deadlines.
• A continuous improvement focus, with the capability to identify efficiencies and enhance reporting, processes and controls.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Interest in financial services and a desire to build a long-term career in finance.

Desirable

• Progress towards, or interest in pursuing, professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, or CFA.
• Exposure to financial services, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, or decision support activities.
• Experience with tools such as Oracle, TM1/Cognos, or Power BI.
• Knowledge of General Insurance financial reporting and/or IFRS17.
• Understanding of the financial services industry and its key business drivers.
