You will join a collaborative team delivering the Funding and Disclosure (FAD) Reform Program. The FAD Reform Program was established to enable the AEC to implement and administer legislative amendments to the Commonwealth Funding and Disclosure Scheme (the Scheme) to increase transparency and accountability in Australia’s electoral system.


The FAD Reform Program comprises three branches: the FAD Program Management Office Branch, the FAD Policy, Engagement and Design Branch, and the FAD Technology Delivery Branch. Together, they are strengthening the AEC's regulatory capability and designing, building and implementing a new ICT system to support the Scheme.

The Assistant Director, Program Delivery and Planning provides leadership within the FAD Finance, Planning and Reporting function and is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering program outcomes. The role provides end-to-end oversight of program activities, ensuring work is effectively prioritised, planned, tracked and delivered in alignment with agreed scope, schedules, budgets and strategic objectives.


Working closely with executives, Release Train Engineers, business areas, delivery partners and stakeholders, the Assistant Director coordinates Program Increment (PI) planning activities and broader program planning processes. The role supports the development of integrated delivery plans, facilitates alignment across work streams, manages interdependencies, and ensures program priorities are translated into delivery commitments.


The position is responsible for coordinating program activities, monitoring delivery performance and maintaining oversight of risks, issues, dependencies and resource requirements to support successful delivery outcomes. The Assistant Director uses Azure DevOps and associated delivery management tools to support planning, prioritisation, dependency management, delivery tracking and performance reporting across the program.


The role supports governance, financial management, resource planning and continuous improvement activities, promoting consistent delivery management practices and reporting across the program. The Assistant Director is required to exercise sound judgement, demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills and effectively operate within a complex and evolving delivery environment.


The position contributes to the achievement of program objectives while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture aligned with organisational values. The role may also be required to lead emerging priorities and undertake additional responsibilities to support evolving program needs.

We are seeking a motivated and capable professional who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience required to perform successfully in this role, including:



  • Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating complex projects, programs or business transformation initiatives, achieving outcomes in complex delivery environments.

  • Experience supporting large-scale business transformation, ICT-enabled change or regulatory reform programs, including the application of project, program and agile delivery methodologies to achieve delivery outcomes. Demonstrated experience coordinating Program Increment (PI) planning, delivery planning activities and governance processes, including the use of Azure DevOps or similar enterprise delivery management tools to support planning, prioritisation, dependency management and delivery oversight.

  • Proven capacity to monitor program performance and manage risks, issues, dependencies and competing priorities, providing clear advice and reporting to support decision-making and delivery outcomes.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise executive briefs, governance papers, reports and program documentation for a range of audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to build productive stakeholder relationships, negotiate outcomes and provide evidence-based advice and recommendations on complex issues.

  • Ability to achieve results in complex environments by exercising sound judgement, accountability and professionalism, while promoting collaboration, continuous improvement and compliance with legislative and governance requirements.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify improvement opportunities, assess complex issues and support evidence-based decision-making.
