Job summary

Meals on Wheels Queensland in Redcliffe is seeking an Assistant Cook to support the Chef in preparing soups, desserts and texture-modified meals for clients.

The role covers cooking, ordering when the Chef is absent, and training kitchen staff and volunteers, with a training pathway toward a Head Cook role. Immediate start available. Hours are two days a week, mornings, with no weekend work.

Qualifications

• Experience in producing meals in a commercial kitchen.
• Effective verbal communication with staff and volunteers.
• Knowledge of Food Safety Requirements.
• Ability to operate all foodservice equipment.
• Strong teamwork and a positive attitude.
• Proficient in Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chef to ensure the Meals on Wheels kitchen operates efficiently and effectively.
• Assist the Chef to supervise and train kitchen staff and volunteers.
• Prepare all meals in accordance with dietary requirements including texture modified meals.
• Ensure meals, soups and desserts are labelled and stocked.
• Undertake training and accreditation to ensure procedures comply with standards (Food Safety Supervisor, First Aid, Fire Safety).
• Assist the Chef in ensuring that all requirements of the Food Safety Program are complied with.
