Woolworths Group in Sydney is seeking an Assistant Category Manager for the Home Essentials (General Merchandise) buying team. You will blend commercial acumen with hands-on sourcing and promotional execution to deliver high-performing ranges from concept to customer.

With 2+ years in retail and a strong product sense, you will drive range reviews, negotiate terms, and collaborate with local and international sourcing partners.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of commercial retail experience in an Assistant Category Manager, Buyer, or Junior Buyer capacity with demonstrated ranging responsibility.
• Experience across Toys & Party or Stationery within General Merchandise categories is desirable.
• Strong product sense and eye for emerging consumer trends and shopping habits.
• Proven capability in negotiating COGS, commercial terms and promotional funding with retail metrics.
• Strong project delivery and organisational skills to manage complex paths and tight deadlines.
• Confident communication to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace and Excel for reporting and analysis.
• Exposure to offshore sourcing hubs or international vendors is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Drive range reviews and negotiate commercial terms with local and international sourcing partners.
• Deliver balanced category growth across sales, margin, inventory, and market share.
• Execute promotional campaigns across store and digital channels to maximize value.
• Curate and land high-performing seasonal ranges with suppliers and international hubs.
• Lead comprehensive, customer-led range reviews and category plans with cross-functional teams.
• Champion QA, product safety, compliance, and sustainability throughout the product lifecycle.
