Job summary

HARLI + HARPA seeks an Assistant Accountant to support accurate, timely financial processing and robust financial control across our multi-site retail network. You will assist with month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and AP activities, while maintaining records and ensuring compliance across markets.

The role requires a Diploma or Degree in Accounting with 2+ years of experience, strong Excel skills, and a proactive, details-oriented approach.

Job description

As our Assistant Accountant, you will support the finance function by ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, assisting with month-end reporting, and providing financial support to the wider finance team. You will play a key part in ensuring compliance, financial accuracy and integrity, and effective financial control across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Process general ledger journals, accruals, prepayments, and account reconciliations.
• Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
• Assist in the preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and supporting working papers.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.

Accounts Payable Support

• Assist with supplier invoice processing and payment runs.
• Weekly reconciliation of business credit card expenses.
• Processing of intercompany transactions, processing of invoices and reconciliation of accounts.

Retail Accounting

• Reconcile daily sales, EFTPOS, cash, and online transaction reports.
• Prepare weekly reconciliations between the POS system and accounting system.

Compliance and Controls

• Accuracy and timeliness of month-end reporting.
• Completion of account reconciliations within deadlines.
• Compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.

What we’re looking for

• A Diploma or Degree in Accounting, with at least 2 years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
• Strong Excel skills, with confidence working with data, spreadsheets and financial information.
• Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Excellent attention to detail, with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting and record keeping.
• Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with others.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
• Experience in a multi-site, multi-country retail environment would be advantageous.
• Progress towards CPA qualification, experience with ERP systems or exposure to complex retail bank reconciliations would be highly regarded.
