Job summary

MessageXchange in Melbourne seeks a proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. You will support month-end close, reconciliations and financial reporting while gaining deeper insight into business operations.

With 2+ years in AR/AP or assistant accounting, you will handle supplier invoices, customer billing, intercompany reconciliations and contribute to process improvements. This role offers growth as responsibilities expand.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• At least two years' experience in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable or Assistant Accountant roles.
• Solid knowledge of accounting principles, month-end processes and financial statement preparation.
• Proven ability to prepare reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Strong Excel skills with lookups, pivot tables and data reconciliations.
• Clear written and verbal communication and a collaborative approach.
• Progress toward CPA or CA qualifications.
• Understanding of AML/CTF principles or willingness to develop knowledge.

We're seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. You'll play a key supporting role in month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting and process improvements as the business continues to grow.

Key responsibilities

Assist with month-end close, including accounts receivable and accounts payable close activities and journal preparation and reporting.

Assist with customer billing, allocate receipts, reconcile customer accounts and follow up overdue payments.

Assist with processing supplier invoices, credit notes and employee expenses, and reconcile supplier statements.

Process intercompany transaction reconciliations.

Prepare general ledger reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.

Analyse revenue and expenses, investigate variances and contribute meaningful reporting commentary.

Support BAS preparation, year-end reporting and requests from external accountants and auditors.

Provide general administration support, including maintaining records, resolving billing queries and liaising with customers and suppliers.

Identify opportunities to streamline finance processes, strengthen internal controls and improve reporting accuracy.

About you

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

At least two years' experience in an Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable or Assistant Accountant role.

Sound knowledge of accounting principles, month-end processes and financial statement preparation.

Demonstrated ability to prepare reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and resolve outstanding items.

Strong Excel skills, including lookup functions, pivot tables and data reconciliations.

Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Clear written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach.

Working towards, or having completed, CPA or CA qualifications.

An understanding of AML/CTF principles, or a willingness to develop knowledge in customer due diligence and transaction monitoring.
