Job summary

Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island Enterprises in Cairns seeks an experienced Assistant Accountant for a varied finance role. You will handle transactional finance and month-end duties, driving accuracy and timely reporting in a Not-for-Profit setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in a high-volume Accounts Payable and Finance Officer role.
• Strong practical accounting, reconciliation and month-end skills.
• Knowledge of General Ledger accounting, accruals, prepayments, GST and BAS.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence with ERP systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication with documentation of processes.
• Experience with NetSuite and/or Simpro would be highly regarded.
• Accounting qualification or studies toward one would be highly regarded.

Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island Enterprises (GEBIE) is a Not-for-Profit organisation seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in Cairns. This is a varied, hands-on role combining transactional finance with accounting and month-end responsibilities. The position would suit an experienced Finance Officer looking to take the next step in their career, or an Assistant Accountant seeking a broad commercial finance role.

Key responsibilities

Accounts Payable, supplier reconciliations and payment processing

Accounts Receivable receipting, collections, and customer statements

Corporate credit card processing and reconciliation

General Ledger and Balance Sheet reconciliations and reviews

Investigation and resolution of reconciliation variances

Month-end journals and variance analysis

GST/BAS, Payroll Tax and TPAR preparation

Develop and maintain documented procedures

Month-end support and other general finance duties as required

About you

Experience in a high-volume Accounts Payable, Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant, or similar role

Strong practical accounting, reconciliation, and month-end skills

Strong Excel skills and confidence using accounting/ERP systems

Ability to learn quickly, take ownership of responsibilities and investigate and resolve issues independently

A calm, organised and professional approach with strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document processes and procedures

Experience with NetSuite and/or Simpro would be highly regarded but is not essential

A relevant accounting qualification, or studies towards one, would be highly regarded; however, candidates with strong relevant commercial finance experience are also encouraged to apply
