Byron Shire Council in Mullumbimby is seeking an Asset Engineer to oversee field data collection, asset condition assessments, and long-term planning for community infrastructure.

You will contribute to maintenance, renewal strategies, and financial reporting while leveraging GIS and asset management systems to drive improvements. Relocation support and flexible working arrangements may be available.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Asset Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience in asset inspections and condition assessment.
• Knowledge of lifecycle planning and renewal strategies.
• Experience with asset management systems; GIS experience is highly regarded.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.

We're looking for an Asset Engineer who enjoys getting out on site, digging into data and turning insights into action. In this role, you'll help guide how Council plans, maintains and renews its infrastructure assets, balancing long-term sustainability with community needs. What you’ll be doing

• Undertake asset inspections and collect asset condition data in the field.

What we look for

We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented professional who can balance strategic thinking with practical delivery. You will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Asset Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in asset inspections, condition assessment and infrastructure asset management.
• Knowledge of asset lifecycle planning, renewal strategies and asset management principles.
• Experience using asset management systems and technology, with GIS experience highly regarded.
• Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
• The ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and consistently deliver quality outcomes.
• A commitment to customer service, continuous improvement and safe work practices.
• A current driver's license.

We offer:

• A permanent full-time position (working 35 hours per week).
• Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $102,109 to $118,309 per annum full time equivalent (dependent upon skills and experience).
