Job summary

Protech Group is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our client’s team in Cairns, Australia, working across asphalt production, laboratory testing and civil construction projects.

You will conduct laboratory and field-based testing of asphalt materials, including hot mix asphalt, binders and aggregates, with day shifts and possible night shifts. Flexibility to travel or stay away from home may be required, and ongoing casual role with full-time hours offers stability.

Qualifications

• Previous laboratory or construction materials testing experience.
• Asphalt or civil construction experience highly regarded.
• Knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and procedures.
• Understanding of Australian Standards, ISO 17025 and NATA requirements desirable.
• Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or relevant qualification desirable.
• Nuclear Gauge User Licence desirable.
• Basic computer and data entry skills.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.
• Flexibility to work – possible night shift and away from home when required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory and field testing of asphalt and construction materials
• Collect and prepare samples from production and project sites
• Perform density, compaction, gradation and asphalt binder testing
• Accurately record and report test results
• Conduct quality control and compliance testing
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment
• Maintain laboratory safety, quality and housekeeping standards
• Assist with maintaining NATA accreditation requirements
