Job summary

Sunshine Coast Regional Council is seeking a strategic leader to oversee aquatic activation, water safety and community participation initiatives. You will drive partnerships with clubs, schools and local organisations while managing contracts and programs that boost participation and wellbeing across the Sunshine Coast.

The role sits in the Community Activation Branch within Sport and Community Venues, offering a permanent full-time position with a total remuneration package of $113k–$117k and

Qualifications

  • Experience in aquatics, recreation or community facilities delivery.
  • Ability to manage contracts, partnerships and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong communication and project leadership capabilities.

About the Role

The Community Activation Branch brings people together by growing participation, connection, belonging and wellbeing across the Sunshine Coast. Through community events, sport and recreation programs, active living initiatives and vibrant community spaces, the branch plays a key role in creating healthy, connected and thriving communities. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a team that delivers meaningful outcomes for residents while supporting an active and sustainable region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead oversight of aquatic activation, water safety and participation partnerships across the Sunshine Coast.
  • Develop partnerships with clubs, schools, providers and community organisations to increase participation.
  • Coordinate and monitor aquatic and lifeguard service contracts, ensuring performance and compliance outcomes.
  • Support the activation of aquatic places through community-led programs, projects and events.

About you

  • You are passionate about promoting aquatic recreation, water safety and active lifestyles, creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate and thrive. With experience in aquatics, recreation, community facilities or a related field, you bring a strong understanding of service delivery, stakeholder engagement and operational management. You excel at building collaborative relationships and working with community groups, service providers and key stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
  • A proactive and organised professional, you are skilled at managing projects, balancing competing priorities and delivering results in a dynamic environment. Your strong communication skills enable you to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, prepare high-quality reports and recommendations, and apply sound judgement to complex matters. Above all, you are customer-focused, committed to continuous improvement and driven by the opportunity to make a lasting impact within the community.
  • A degree qualification in business management, recreation management, aquatics or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A current Positive Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one.
  • A current First Aid Certificate.
