Job description

This is an opportunity to join a high-profile Australian Government organisation at an important point in its transformation.

The organisation is undertaking significant legislative and operational reform that will reshape how it operates and strengthen its role as a large-scale regulator.

With major changes underway across legislation, business processes and technology, this is a chance to play a meaningful role in helping people understand, adopt and confidently work within a new operating environment.

The Opportunity

You’ll join the Training Specialist function within this reform program, on a temporary contract basis, playing a hands‑on role in helping people across the organisation understand and adapt to significant change.

Working alongside Education Specialists and subject matter experts, you’ll plan and deliver training that turns complex legislative and system changes into practical, everyday knowledge.

The role can be based in Melbourne or Canberra, with a mix of on-site attendance and remote working available.

It’s a great opportunity to put your facilitation and instructional design skills to work on a program that touches almost every part of the organisation.

You’ll have access to:

  • A competitive hourly rate, reflecting the scale and complexity of the work
  • Flexible working arrangements, combining on-site attendance with remote work
  • Choice of Melbourne or Canberra as your base location
  • Variety, from face‑to‑face workshops to virtual briefings and content development
  • The chance to build your L&D experience on a program with a national footprint
The Role

This is a hands‑on training delivery role, working across both virtual and face‑to‑face formats.

As the Training Specialist, you will take ownership of the delivery and coordination of engaging learning activities across a range of audiences and environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering instructor‑led training sessions, workshops and briefings to internal staff and stakeholders
  • Facilitating both virtual and face‑to‑face learning activities, adapting your approach for different audiences
  • Working closely with subject matter experts to translate legislative, policy and system changes into clear training content
  • Coordinating training logistics, including scheduling, venue or platform readiness and learner communications
  • Assessing participant understanding during sessions and adjust your facilitation technique accordingly
  • Gathering and analysing participant feedback to identify opportunities to improve training delivery
  • Developing training content and materials across a range of formats for a mixed audience
  • Reporting to leadership on training participation, engagement and capability outcomes
The Ideal Person

You will be an experienced learning and development or training professional who is equally comfortable in front of a room, facilitating virtually and working behind the scenes to make sure a learning program lands well.

You will bring strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to take complex or highly technical information and turn it into something people can understand and apply.

You will be confident working with subject matter experts and stakeholders who have a high level of interest in, and potentially scrutiny of, the subject matter.

You will bring sound judgement, strong organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑moving reform environment.

Most importantly, you will be someone who genuinely enjoys helping people build confidence through change.

You will take a practical, audience‑focused approach to training and be comfortable adapting your style depending on who is in the room.

Experience delivering training within a regulatory reform, government or complex ICT transformation environment will be highly regarded, as will tertiary qualifications in Training and Workplace Assessment or a related discipline.

This is an opportunity to do more than deliver training, you will help people understand and successfully navigate significant change.

Salary / Rate
  • $60/hr – $68/hr + Super
  • 8-month Labour hire with options to extend
  • Based in Melbourne or Canberra, with flexible on‑site and remote working arrangements
  • Baseline clearance required
