Job summary

Compas Pty Ltd in Canberra is seeking an APS6 Senior Communications Officer to develop and implement communication strategies, campaigns and public affairs activities within an Australian Government environment.

You will provide media and issues management advice to senior stakeholders, build relationships with internal and external partners, and support launches and public relations events across key projects and commemorative initiatives.

Qualifications

APS6 Senior Communications Officer | Strategy & Media

Develop and implement communication strategies, campaigns and public affairs activities in an Australian Government environment, providing media, issues management and strategic communication advice to senior stakeholders.

Location: Canberra, ACT
Contract Duration: 6 months with potential 12-month extension
Security Clearance Requirement: Baseline
Closing Date: 19/08/2026

Essential Tasks

• Develop and implement communication strategies, plans and products for key projects, campaigns and commemorative events.
• Provide communication, media and issues management advice to senior management and business areas.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support launches, presentations, public relations events and other public affairs activities.

Key Criteria

• Well-developed written and communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and communicate with influence.
• Ability to inform communication strategies and provide advice that supports business outcomes.
• Strong leadership, teamwork and stakeholder relationship skills.
• Excellent proofreading and editing skills, supported by core project management capability.
