Job summary

Markets Group within the Commonwealth Treasury is seeking APS6 Analysts to contribute to policy development across the financial system, retirement incomes, consumer protection, corporate regulation and the digital economy.

APS6 officers shape government decisions, manage complex work, and provide high-quality advice on issues of national significance, working with ministers, regulators, industry and consumer groups to deliver reforms that strengthen Australia's economy.

Qualifications

• Background in economics, law, commerce, finance, public policy, data or digital policy is welcome.
• Desirable experience in policy development and legislative/regulatory reform.
• Exposure to financial services, retirement incomes or consumer protection is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Undertake complex policy analysis and provide strategic advice on economic, legal and regulatory issues.
• Prepare high-quality ministerial briefs, Cabinet submissions and consultation materials.
• Manage components of legislative and regulatory reform projects from design to implementation.
• Analyse data, stakeholder feedback and market developments to inform policy recommendations.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with regulators, industry, consumer groups and other agencies.
• Coordinate work across stakeholders to support government priorities and reform outcomes.
• Support and mentor junior staff and contribute to a high-performing team culture.

APS6 officers play an important role in shaping government decisions, managing complex work, and providing high-quality advice on issues of national significance.

This is an opportunity to work closely with ministers, regulators, industry and consumer groups to deliver reforms that strengthen Australia's economy and financial system. Successful candidates will have opportunities to manage significant policy and reform projects, contribute to legislation and regulatory initiatives, and influence decisions through exposure to senior leaders across government and regulatory agencies.

Key responsibilities

Desirable skills / experience

Relevant experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly regarded:

• Policy development and implementation.

• Digital policy, payments, AI, data or emerging technologies.
• Stakeholder engagement, project management and policy delivery.
