About the Opportunities

The agency is undergoing a period of significant change and growth, with new responsibilities and expanded scope of schemes, such as the Cheaper Home Batteries initiative, Guarantee of Origin scheme and the Nature Repair Market. The agency has also been appointed as the preferred regulator for distributed energy products, also known as consumer energy resources.

With a variety of roles on offer we are searching for candidates who can demonstrate capability in a variety of different areas.

Information about all the schemes we administer, as well as our publications, can be found on our website .

Scheme Operations Division

Our Scheme Operations Division enables entry and participation in the schemes administered by the agency. Staff assess applications and make statutory decisions on client scheme entitlements. The division works collaboratively across the agency to ensure efficient and effective administration of all schemes.

Scheme Support Division

The Scheme Support Division supports the agency to resolve complex issues, advocate for legislative and policy change, screen and monitor client behaviour, address serious non-compliance and improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Consumer energy national technical regulator

The Australian Government, in partnership with state and territory governments, has developed a national framework for regulating consumer energy resources. We are preparing to take on the role of the Consumer Energy Resources National Technical Regulator under the framework, subject to legislation.

The new regulatory framework will give consumers greater confidence in their devices, helping them get more value from their energy systems. The framework sets out roles for us as the Consumer Energy National Technical Regulator, including registering suppliers, installers and products; collecting information about installed devices; and monitoring compliance.

There are current, immediate vacancies available working within the consumer energy national technical regulator as well as further anticipated vacancies as the national framework is developed and implementation commences. The availability of roles will be staggered as the framework matures and subject to the passage of the related legislation.

The merit pool from this process may also be used to fill roles within the Renewable Energy Target scheme and National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme.

Role Responsibilities and Duties

As an APS Level 6 you will be expected to undertake tasks that are complex to complex in nature and operate under limited direction with autonomy and accountability. You will be capable of managing your own workflow, using your initiative and judgement. Many roles require contact with stakeholders, and you will be expected to be able to communicate clearly and provide complex advice. You may also have leadership and management responsibilities, including setting priorities and managing workflows.

The duties across all roles will include:

  • Lead complex technical analysis and provide specialised advice on energy systems, technical standards, implementation options and operational impacts.
  • Translate policy, program or operational intent and technical requirements into clear implementation options, operating approaches, process maps and decision pathways.
  • Assess technical feasibility, implementation risks, dependencies and operational impacts, and provide recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Prepare high-quality briefing material, technical reports, presentations and advice that synthesise evidence and clearly explain assumptions, limitations and options.
  • Coordinate review and resolution of complex technical, policy or program issues, including consolidating feedback from internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support and coach others to improve technical reasoning, documentation quality and consistent application of standards and agreed approaches.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships for complex or sensitive matters, explaining technical concepts in plain language and navigating contested views.
  • Drive continuous improvement of technical guidance, templates, systems and ways of working to support implementation readiness and operational delivery.

Specific roles and responsibilities will be discussed with candidates as they progress through the recruitment process. If an offer of employment is made to you, you will receive the detailed duties for the specific role being offered.
