Consumer energy national technical regulator

The Australian Government, in partnership with state and territory governments, has developed a national framework for regulating consumer energy resources. We are preparing to take on the role of the Consumer Energy Resources National Technical Regulator under the framework, subject to legislation.

The new regulatory framework will give consumers greater confidence in their devices, helping them get more value from their energy systems. The framework sets out roles for us as the Consumer Energy National Technical Regulator, including registering suppliers, installers and products; collecting information about installed devices; and monitoring compliance.

There are current, immediate vacancies available working within the consumer energy national technical regulator as well as further anticipated vacancies as the national framework is developed and implementation commences. The availability of roles will be staggered as the framework matures and subject to the passage of the related legislation.

The merit pool from this process may also be used to fill roles within the Renewable Energy Target scheme and National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme.

Role Responsibilities and Duties

As an APS Level 4 you will be expected to undertake tasks of moderate complexity and work under general direction. You will be capable of managing your own workflow and may provide specialist or general support to the function of the business area. Many roles require contact with stakeholders, and you will be expected to be able to communicate clearly and provide advice. You will have the ability to undertake research of legislation and policy documents and provide simple analysis of these documents.

The duties across all roles will include:

  • Undertake research and analysis to support technical advice on energy systems, technical standards, implementation options and operational requirements.
  • Gather, verify and organise technical evidence, specifications, standards and source material to support advice, briefings and implementation planning.
  • Draft routine correspondence, file notes, process maps, meeting papers and briefing material using approved templates and plain English.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to obtain information, clarify technical requirements and support timely responses.
  • Support review of advice, reports, presentations and draft materials by coordinating comments, checking evidence and identifying gaps or inconsistencies.
  • Identify routine technical issues, dependencies or implementation risks and elevate appropriately in accordance with agreed processes.
  • Contribute to the development of guidance, templates and work instructions to support consistent technical input and quality assurance.

Specific roles and responsibilities will be discussed with candidates as they progress through the recruitment process. If an offer of employment is made to you, you will receive the detailed duties for the specific role being offered.
