Rio Tinto’s Bell Bay Aluminium in Tasmania is seeking a Diesel Fitter Apprentice to join the maintenance team on a 9 Day Fortnight roster. You will learn mobile plant maintenance, complete a nationally recognised trade qualification, and work with experienced mentors in a safety‑focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Learning and developing trade knowledge relating to mobile plant maintenance, machinery, processes and systems deployed across the site.
• Working towards completing an apprenticeship with a recognised training plan (e.g., Tas TAFE).
• Working as part of a team to ensure safe, continuous and environmentally responsible operations.
• Gaining experience from qualified trade experts with onsite apprentice mentors.

Bell Bay Aluminium is seeking candidates for a Diesel Fitter Apprenticeship to join our maintenance team, where you will work across a variety of fleet and gain exceptional knowledge and skills.

These roles are a great opportunity for hands-on, self-starters who are looking to commence their career in the industry. Reporting to the Mobile Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, you will be

• Learning and developing trade knowledge and skills relating to mobile plant maintenance, machinery, processes and systems deployed across the site
• Working towards completing an apprenticeship in conjunction with a nationally recognised training plan through internal and external training (i.e. Tas TAFE)
• Working as part of a team to ensure safe, continuous and environmentally responsible operations
• Gaining experience from a range of qualified trade experts whilst being supported by onsite apprentice mentors

What You’ll Bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have

• Passing grades in Maths and English
• Demonstrated interest in Heavy Commercial Vehicles or Mobile Plant Machinery
• The desire and willingness to learn with a self-motivated 'can do' attitude
• Strong work ethics with a commitment to health, safety and environmental work practices
• Experience working as part of a team and strong verbal and written communication skills

Applicants must meet the specific site eligibility criteria

Diesel Fitter

• Successfully completed Year 10 or 12 (or expected to complete in 2026) with a minimum grade B in Essential Maths.
• Pre Vocational Courses in this field would be highly regarded.
