Apprentice Refrigeration / HVAC Technicians (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Year)
The Apprentice HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for learning and assisting in the installation, servicing, maintenance, commissioning, fault finding, and repair of commercial and industrial air conditioning, HVAC, and refrigeration systems under the supervision of qualified tradespeople. The role supports the operational needs of NB Trades & Services while the apprentice completes the requirements of the nationally recognised Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration as part of a formal apprenticeship. The position focuses on developing technical skills, maintaining safety and compliance standards, delivering professional customer service, and progressing toward trade qualification.
Key responsibilities
- Assist qualified technicians and refrigeration mechanics with installation, maintenance, servicing, repairs, testing, and commissioning activities
- Perform allocated tasks under direct or general supervision appropriate to training level and competency
- Learn to install and service split systems, ducted systems, package units, VRF/VRV systems, commercial refrigeration systems, cool rooms, freezer rooms, ventilation systems, and associated controls
- Develop skills in fault finding, diagnostics, testing, and performance verification
- Learn to read and interpret plans, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and manufacturer documentation
- Safely use tools, testing equipment, ladders, access equipment, and materials
- Assist with maintaining worksites, vehicles, tools, and equipment in a clean and professional condition
- Actively participate in off-the-job training and assessment requirements for Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Maintain apprenticeship records, logbooks, workplace evidence, and training documentation as required by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
- Complete timesheets, job documentation, and apprentice records accurately and on time
About you
- Active Apprenticeship Training Contract (QLD) or being willing to be enrolled
- Enrolment in Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- White Card (Construction Induction) or being willing to obtain
- Ability to work under supervision and follow directions
- Willingness to undertake all required training and assessments
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
- Genuine interest in HVAC and refrigeration industry
- Willingness to learn and develop technical trade skills
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
