Job summary

Allship Engineering in Sydney, NSW, seeks an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter to train in the marine Defence sector, with primary site Potts Point and occasional work at Banksmeadow workshop. Police check within 30 days and baseline security clearance required.

4‑day week, 06:30–16:30 Mon–Thu. You will attend formal training, perform mechanical fitting tasks under supervision, use precision measuring instruments, operate machining equipment, inspect equipment, read ITPs and SWMS, and ensure site

Job description

Allship Engineering is seeking an Apprentice Mechanical Fitter for work within the marine sector of Defence industry. The primary work location is Potts Point in Sydney, NSW, and occasional work at our workshop in Banksmeadow.

Police check no older than 30 days must be provided.

Baseline security clearance is required for this position.

Candidates may obtain baseline security clearance after hiring if not already held.

Allship Engineering conduct a 4-day work routine, 0630-1630 Mon-Thu.

Hourly rate for a 1st year apprentice is $25 per hour.

2nd, 3rd & 4th year Apprentice Fitters will also be offered a higher hourly rate.

Hourly rate for a mature age (21+ years old) 1st year apprentice is $38 per hour. Consideration for an increased hourly rate for mature age apprentices with experience in a similar field will be considered.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Attend all formal training as agreed to by yourself, your employer, and training institution

Under the supervision of a qualified Tradesperson:

• i. Perform mechanical fitting tasks as directed by your immediate supervisor
• ii. Test and identify defective or worn mechanical components
• iii. Maintain and repair defective or worn mechanical components
• iv. Use precision measuring instruments to verify parts for accuracy and fit
• v. Operate machining equipment to manufacture mechanical parts
• vi. Conduct equipment inspections
• vii. Read and understand Task Packs, inclusive of Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s) and Safe Work Method Statement’s (SWMS).

Develop an understanding of work site procedures and permits.
