Job summary

Allship Engineering is seeking a trade qualified Mechanical Fitter for work in the marine Defence sector. Primary location: Potts Point, Sydney, NSW; occasional at Banksmeadow workshop. Police check within 30 days, baseline security clearance required.

4-day workweek 06:30–16:30 Monday to Thursday, with access to apprenticeship mentoring and training. Candidates should have Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, Construction White Card, and a valid Driver's Licence.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade required (essential).
• Construction White Card (essential).
• Driver's Licence (essential).
• Desirable: CPCCRI3012 basic rigging.
• Desirable: CPCCLDG3001 dogging licence.
• Desirable: WAH and CS confined spaces training.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical fitting tasks as qualified and experienced.
• Assist in managing and completing Task Packs, ITPs and SWMS.
• Flag when ITPs don’t reflect task requirements.
• Support mechanical fitting delivery across projects to meet specs.
• Mentor and train apprentices and Trade Assistants.

Job description

Allship Engineering is seeking a trade qualified Mechanical Fitter for work within the marine sector of Defence industry. The primary work location is Potts Point in Sydney, NSW, and occasional work at our workshop in Banksmeadow.

Police check no older than 30 days must be provided.

Baseline security clearance is required for this position.

Candidates may obtain baseline security clearance after hiring if not already held.

Allship Engineering conduct a 4-day work routine, 0630-1630 Mon-Thu.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Conduct mechanical fitting trade tasks relevant to your qualifications and experience.
• Assist in the management of, and completion of Task Packs, inclusive of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
• Inform Leading Hands when ITP’s do not adequately reflect the identified task requirements.
• Support the delivery of mechanical fitting tasks across all projects to ensure conformance to Client requirements and specifications.
• Actively engage in the mentoring and training of apprentices and Trade Assistant's.

Education & Qualification Requirements:

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent (essential).
• Construction White Card (essential).
• Driver's Licence (essential).
• CPCCRI3012 - Perform basic rigging (desirable).
• CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to perform dogging (desirable).
• RIIWHS204E - Work Safely at Heights (WAH) – (desirable).
• RIIWHS202E - Enter and Work in Confined Spaces (CS) – (desirable).

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience working on Navy ships and/or marine vessels is highly desired.
• Basic Rigging & Dogging is highly desired.
• Physical ability to climb ladders and stairwells on ships.
• Minimum 1-2 years of fitting experience desired.
